Gabrella Shackelford HADEN224,498 was born on 10 September 1846.224 She died in October 1936 at the age of 90.224 Gabrella and Mr. Rountree lived in a small cottage on the outskirts of Springfield when first married; he bought the corner lot next door and built a 13-room mansion for their 20th Anniversary. The location is 531 Mount Vernon St. The old house had grown from 3 rooms to 8 - they cut in half and moved part of it around on the back of the lot of the new house to face Main Street. The other half was moved to Walnut Street. In 1932, 4 generations of Rountrees were living in the house: Gabrella, daughter Edith, grandchildren Joel H. Jr. and Ruby, and Ruby's son Jack. Gabrella's mother-in-law lived with them in the early years. Died probably Springfield, MO. Bible says "Mt. Vernon St." Gabrella Shackelford HADEN and Newton Marshall ROUNTREE were married on 27 March 1865 in Greene County, Missouri.498 Newton Marshall ROUNTREE498, son of Zenas M. M. and Elizabeth (Massey) Rountree, and was born Nov. 5th, 1838, on his father's farm three miles northeast of Springfield, Missouri. He was educated in the county, and in 1800 [this date is obviously an error - possibly should be 1860] entered the store of Massey & McAdams, as clerk, and in 1864 became a partner in the house and so remained until 1869. [McAdams was married to Margaret Massey, sister to Elizabeth, Newton's mother] From 1869 to 1871 he was of the firm of Keet, Massey & Co., and when the firm reorganized in 1871, it became Keet, Rountree & Co., and so continues. Mr. Rountree was married in 1867 to Miss Grabella, daughter of Hon. Charles Haden, of this county. Their marriage is blest with three sons and two daughters. Mrs. Rountree is a member of the Christian church. They are both of the pioneer families of the county, and none are more honorable or more highly respected in Greene county.
