Born in Madison Co: Margaret age 23. Eliza 22. Mary 20. Susan 18. John 16. Elizabeth 13, James Monroe, age 1.
Given the age of James and Elizabeth, I believe it possible James Monroe is a grandchild, not a son.

I have seen two dates of death for John, and I believe both to be wrong. One is 1903 in Jackson Co - there's no way he lived that long, since he was age 70 in 1850. The other is a John Gabbard that appears in the 1870 Mortality census as having died in Indian Creek, Owsley Co, in January. The entry references Family 16, which proves to be the John Gabbard whose wife was Margaret Combs - he was born about 1811 and was the son of Henry Gabbard & Barbara Hunsucker. I believe it likely this John died after the 1860 census - he does not seem to appear again.
John GABBARD and Elizabeth LOAR were married on 27 October 1820 in Clay County, Kentucky. Elizabeth LOAR was born in 1800 in Tennessee.
John GABBARD and Elizabeth LOAR had the following children:
|Hiram GABBARD was born in 1821 in Kentucky. |
There is more than one Hiram of about the same age. Online databases show that John & Elizabeth Loar had a son Hiram born say 1823 and that he married a Nancy.
From Madison Co KY records: Hiram W. Gabbart, bond to marry Nancy Dowden, dated 22 Jul 1841. Michael Dowden was bondsman. John Gabbart, father of the groom, gave consent - so Hiram probably not yet of age. No minister's return.
The only Hiram Gabbard found in Kentucky of similar age in 1850 was the Hiram son of Jacob Gabbard Jr & Susannah in Owsley Co KY - he was still at home with them.
Living next door to Phillip & Jane Gabbard in 1860, was a Hiram Gabbard, age 35. Wife Mary Jane age 29. Middleton 11. Jacob 7. Sarah 6. Harvey 3. Henry 2. and Hiram, 2 months. Hiram whose wife was Mary Jane was a son of Jacob Gabbard Jr and Susannah Bowman.
Perhaps Nancy died, and Hiram remarried.
Others say that this Hiram married Arminda Hester. This Hiram seems a bit more likely. If so, he was living in Nevins Twp, Vigo Co, IN in 1860. P.O. Terre Haute, Hh 1253

Said to have married Joseph Hulett. I am not totally sure there was this daughter. If so, she married prior to 1850.
