440. George Walter FRY119 was born on 24 May 1876.100 He died on 11 October 1905 at the age of 29 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.100,119

Walter Fry, boarder, b. May 1876, age 24, b. TX, parents b. MO, farm labor

Walter and Irene moved to Ladonia to live near his parents George W. and Mary Adams Fry. He died suddenly in 1905. His mother Mary Adams Fry, died about 4 weeks after her son - doctor said from the shock. Irene and daughters lived on with Grandpa George W. Fry until Irene remarried.

There is some confusion about his name. The Fry papers of Anna Bird Casey give his name simply as Walter Fry. His grave in Bourland Cemetery is marked as Walter G. Fry. He married in Collingsworth Co as G. W. Fry, Jr. His death certificate has Walter Fry, but then "George" was written in above and to the right of Walter as though inserted later.
I would interpret this as the following: the baby was likely named George Walter, not George Washington as was his father's name; he was called Walter by his family to save confusion with his dad who was called George; after he was grown he attached the Jr. when he wrote G. W. or George W. because he was the younger George. The term "Junior" simply was not applied in the hard and fast way that we apply it today.

His death certificate is available in digital format on in the Texas Death Certificates. It is difficult to read, but I did enlarge it - maybe it's because I've read so many documents, but I could then read the name - I believe it was first written as Walter Fry, then someone wrote the George in front. There was no "Junior". I noticed he was ill for 21 days before he died. The contributory cause to his death from typhoid fever was ______ of bowels. I'm guessing he may have had severe diarrhea that would not cease. S. H. Fulton, M.D. of Ladonia was the doctor. The indexer at FamilySearch read the age as 24, but it looks more like the 29 that he was to me.
