1. CHARLES DODSON^1,2 was born about 1649.² He died before 6 February 1705 in Richmond County, Virginia.³

Charles Dodson Sr is by tradition the immigrant but there is no proof of his arrival.
First record of Charles Dodson is a lease of land in Old Rappahannock County 1680. This County became extinct in 1692 when it was divided into Essex & Richmond Counties. Charles owned land in both but lived in North Farnham Parish, Richmond.

Charles swore he was "aged fifty years" in a court record of 6 Mar 1699/1700. [Richmond Co VA Miscellaneous Record Book, p.41]

Estimated marriage date. Anne's surname is unknown.

Will written 11 Jan 1703; Probate 6 Feb 1705.
The will of Charles Dodson bequeathed moveable estate to his wife Ann and each of his daughters. Each of his sons received land but it was entailed; not to be sold out of the family. This would create difficulties later when they wanted to sell out and move on.

CHARLES DODSON and ANNE [DODSON] were married about 1679.² ANNE [DODSON]^1,2,4 was born before 1654.

One source states her father was Benjamin Dodson, born May 1652 in Essex County, VA. [Doubtful this is correct - the thorough research of the Dodson book does not reveal Anne's surname but concludes her surname is unknown.]

After the death of Charles Dodson, Anne married John Hill: 3 Jul 1706, John Hill and wife Anne, executrix of the LW&T of Charles Dodson, dec'd, petitioned the court for appraisement of the estate. Her son Thomas may have tried to stop the marriage as he brought an action against John Hill marrying the Executrix of Charles Dodson; case dismissed 3 Apr 1707.

CHARLES DODSON and ANNE [DODSON] had the following children:

5	iv.	William DODSON5 was born (date unknown). The only known record of William is the bequest of land in his father's Will. He may have died as a young man or moved away abandoning his property to his brothers.

8	vii.	Anne DODSON6 was born (date unknown). There are no records of Anne except that she received a share of her father's moveable estate in his will.
9	viii.	Elizabeth DODSON6 was born (date unknown). There are no records of Elizabeth except that she received a share of her father's moveable estate in his will.
