William A. Comstock was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Michigan, 1920, 1922, 1924, and in 1928. He was elected Governor in 1932 to serve 1933-34. He was a Commissioner in the Civil Service Commission of the State of Michigan. He also served as Mayor of Alpena.

Josephine was the daughter of Henry Kirke White and his wife Christine Fortier.
She had a son, Kirke White, by a former marriage. He was adopted by William Comstock and went by the name of Kirke White Comstock. He was born Fort Apache, Arizona, 22 Dec 1905.
Josephine is buried Elmwood Cemetery, Detroit - not with her husband at Alpena.
