His father was William Billings, b Taunton, Somersetshire, Eng, abt 1629. He left England some time prior to 1649 as evidenced in an older brother' will. His arrival in America are not recorded. However it is certain that he lived in Dorcheser in 1658 and moved to Stonington on or before 1667.

The Ancestral file gave this location as "Stoningen" - I believe that was an error as there is no place of that name. Stonington, however, was established very early in New London county.
