634. Jacob COMSTOCK was born about 1775 in Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island. He died before 1864 at the age of 89.

Jacob married (1) about 1807 to Mehitabel Olds and (2) to Abigail Smith, 21 Apr 1826.
John A. Comstock says that Abigail was born 12 May in Brimfield, MA and died in Southbridge, MA [a widow] on 3 Jan 1864, age 75 years. She was first married to David B. Smith and was a daughter of Samuel & Mary (King) Shaw.

2) Bail bond of Jacob Comstock on 14 Nov. 1817
3) IOU from Jacob Comstock to Mellen Sanford on 6 Dec. 1816
4) Attachment of the estate of Jacob Comstock on 28 July 1817
5) Jacob Comstock, Abigail his wife and Mehitable, their daughter on Pauper accounts and letter book between the years of 1829-67.

I found Abby Comstock, living in Sturbridge, Worcester Co MA in 1850. She was age 62, or born 1788, and in the household of Louie H. Benson and wife Mary M., age 20. She was said to have had a daughter Mehitabel - was this perhaps Mary M.?

Jacob COMSTOCK and Mehitabel OLDS were married on 2 February 1804 in Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Mehitabel OLDS was born on 13 September 1782 in Ludlow, Hampden County, Massachusetts. She died on 11 January 1819 at the age of 36 in Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

m 1) Mehitable Hixon b 4 June 1755; d 18 Dec. 1815.
After his first wife died he married 2) Mrs. Louisa Bliss of Palmer on 7 May 1817 VIR.
His will was probated in Northampton MA in 1819...skipping over all of the details...In April 1820, Charles Bennett was guardian of Cromwell B. Comstock and Catherine Comstock, minors under 14, children of Jacob Comstock and grandchildren of Justin Olds...distribution to Cromwell Brown Comstock and Catherine Comstock, children of Mehitable Comstock, deceased wife of Jacob Comstock and daughter of Justin Olds. (NOTE: Charles Bennett was born 1752 in Smithfield RI and died 20 Dec. 1834; he m 21 May 1775 to Anne Sprague, d/o Amos and Marcy Sprague, born Smithfield RI 31 Jan 1755 and died 16 Feb. 1847 in Ludlow MA. Charles was in Ludlow before 1807. He had son Charles b Smithfield 14 Sept 1783 who was in Ludlow in 1813 and died 4 Sept. 1859. Another child was Anna.)

Cromwell Brown COMSTOCK was born on 19 April 1808 in Ludlow, Hampden County, Massachusetts. He died on 29 September 1842 at the age of 34 in Chicopee Falls, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
Cromwell was a stone mason and moved to Springfield MA and then to Chicopee MA where he died and is buried in Chicopee Falls Cemetery. He married 1)Caroline Bradford Sanderson on 20 Oct. 1828 - she of Smithfield RI.
Children:
Abby B. born 15 Aug. 1831 in Smithfield RI; died 16 May 1910 in Agawam MA; married 3 Nov. 1836 at Springfield, Hampden MA to Harvey M. Woodburn of Springfield, born 27 July 1833 at Windham VT (VIR)
Henry -
Cromwell married 2)widow Lucinda Wyman, daugh of John S. Edwards and Phoebe Williams; she died at her son William's house in Meriden CT 1876, but buried in Springfield MA ( NOTE: I have some interesting background on her)

William B.- born 20 July 1837 in Springfield, MA
Daniel E. - was of Kensington CT

William B. Comstock, son of Cromwell stated that he was only five years old when his father died and he was early obliged to earn his livelihood. He remained on a farm in Belchertown MA until 15 years of age...he married on 27 Nov. 1860 in New York to Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Whittaker, daughter of Charles Stewart.

Catherine COMSTOCK (private).

Jacob COMSTOCK and Abigail SHAW were married on 21 April 1826 in Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. Abigail SHAW was born on 12 May 1788 in Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts. She died on 3 January 1864 at the age of 75 in Southbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Abigail was the daughter of Samuel and Mary (King) Shaw. She was the widow of David B. Smith at the time of her marriage to Jacob Comstock.
