ONE OF FIRST SETTLERS AT VANDUSER DIES
Funeral services for Elijah Breckenridge Comstock, 85, one of the first settlers at Vanduser and one of the persons who helped form the charter that incorporated Vanduser into a town, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Vanduser Methodist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. A. D Rankin officiating. Burial will be in the old Morley Cemetery.
Born Nov 16, 1868 in Hawesville, Ky., he moved to Vanduser community when he was seven. He married the former Miss Maggie Gibbs who preceded him in death on March 5, 1927. A son, Clarence also preceded him in death on July 24, 1953.
He is survived by a son, Claude Comstock, of Sikeston: two grandsons, Omar, of Los Angeles, and Leo, of Sikeston, with whom he made his home where he died Wednesday; two granddaughters, Mrs. Bernadine Rister of Sikeston, and Mrs. Patsy Johnson of Tulsa, Okla.; and 10 great grandchildren.
The body lies in state in the Welsh Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Elijah Breckenridge Comstock, 85, one of the first settlers at Vanduser and one of the persons who helped form the charter that incorporated Vanduser into a town, were held last Friday at the Vanduser Methodist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. A. D. Rankin officiating. Burial was in the Old Morley Cemetery.

Elijah Breckinridge COMSTOCK and Maggie W. GIBBS were married on 19 December 1889 in Benton, St. Louis County, Missouri.350 Maggie W. GIBBS, daughter of John H. GIBBS and Mary PILE, was born on 5 November 1868 in Hawesville, Hancock County, Kentucky.430 She died on 18 March 1927 at the age of 58.430

Her husband's obituary cites Maggie's death as March 5, 1927.

Former Area Resident Dies in Los Angeles
A former resident of this area, Clarence "Percy" Comstock, 51, died Friday in Los Angeles, Calif.
He was born Nov. 24, 1901 at Vanduser and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Oma Comstock, of Los Angeles; a daughter Mrs. Patsy Johnson, of Tulsa, Okla; his father, Lige Comstock, of Sikeston; a brother, Claude of Sikeston; two nephews, Leo Comstock of Sikeston, and Omar Comstock, of Los Angeles; a niece Mrs. Bell Rister of Sikeston; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today in the Utter-McKinley Mortuary in Los Angeles. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery there.
