137. Cordova HADEN78,103,178 was born on 1 September 1870 in Ladonia, Fannin County, Texas.105,117 She died on 4 December 1961 at the age of 91 in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas.

Cordova is not on the 1870 US Census in Fannin County TX with the rest of her family - according to her Death Certificate she was born in September of that year, so should not have been there.
In 1880: Cordova listed in the FamilySearch Census transcript as age 9.

In 1900, she as listed as "Cordy" in the Census.
Found Birthday Card from Cordie to dear Bud Joe postmarked 27 Jul 1950 from Quanah, Hardeman County, TX.

[Mrs. J. A. Pickens, sister, was the only sibling still living when J. B. Haden died, 1953.]

Cordova died of a "vascular accident" - she had had a stroke a week previously. The informant for the death certificate was her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Watt. Mrs. Watt did not not Cordova's father's given name but did list her mother as Mary Jane Pickens. Cordova is buried Quanah Cemetery.

Cordova HADEN and Joseph Andrew PICKENS were married on 22 March 1888 in Fannin County, Texas.130,138,179 Joseph Andrew PICKENS78,103,180,181,182,183,184, son of Joseph William Israel PICKENS and Elizabeth A. HADEN, was born on 5 November 1861 in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.103 He died on 16 April 1952 at the age of 90 in Quanah, Hardeman County, Texas.78

Don't know when Joe Pickens went to Texas. Joe was still in Alabama with his father in 1880. His uncle Dr. Andrew Gibson Pickens was in Fannin Co; Dr. Pickens died there in 1887.

Joseph and Cordova were 3rd cousins once removed - Joe was a descendant of the Hadens who settled in Alabama. I wonder if they ever knew this.

Joe A. Pickens and Joseph B. Haden were partners in business from 1900-1903.
1900 Census lists Joe Pickens as a dry goods merchant.

It's interesting that in 1900, there was another Joseph A. Pickens living in Fannin Co. He was born Mar 1843 (age 47) in Tennessee. He and his wife, Mary A. are buried in Lindsey Cemetery in Fannin Co.

1910. Quanah, Hardeman Co. J. A. Pickens, age 45, married 22 years, b. AL as were his parents. Listed as Agent [remainder unreadable] Cordova, wife, age 38, 6 children born, 5 living. [Either daughter Mary or son Haden has died.] b. TX - gives unknown for bith of parents. Cordova, daughter age 16, b. TX, Wannita age 13, Hilda age 11, Evelyn age age 4.

1920. Quanah City, Hardman Co. Joe A. Pickens, age 58, b. Alabama, as were his parents. Real Estate Agent. Cordie, wife, age 49, b. TX, parents b. KY [she was born in MO]. Juanita, daughter age 23, Evelyn, daughter age 14.

1930 Census. Joe Pickens was by this time 68 years old; he was 26 when they married. His occupation was listed as Justice of the Peace for the County. Cordia was age 59. Daughter Evelyn, age 24 was still single and living at home.

Joe A. Pickens died at home in Quanah, TX - 404 Green St. He was listed as retired, county official. Birthplace given as Huntsville, AL - parents, J. W. Pickens and Elizabeth Haden. Informant was Cordova Pickens Bergman. He is buried Quanah cemetery.

Cordova's father's death certificate gives her names as Cordova Bergman. Mrs. George A. Bergman, a sister, was the informant for sister Evelyn's death certificate.

Hilda PICKENS was born in November 1898 in Texas.103



Evelyn PICKENS185 was born on 12 August 1905 in Texas.78,184 She died on 1 January 1973 at the age of 67 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

Evelyn Adele Pickens had been in Fort Worth for 7 days when she died; quite likely in the hospital although no name is given. Her residence was 404 Green St, Quanah, Hardeman Co, TX. She was born Aug 12, 1905 and was age 67 when she died 1 Jan 1973. She was never married. Her father was Joe A. Pickens; her mother Cordie Haden. The informant was her sister, Mrs. George A. Bergman. Evelyn died of pneumonia; her body taken to Quanah for burial, Quanah Cemetery.
