5. Morris BAKER was born circa 1750. He died in November 1810 at the age of 60 in Ashe County, North Carolina. Morris Baker was born before 1755, reportedly in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. He reportedly married Jane Smith. The will of Hugh Smith dated 24 February 1781 and probated in December of 1781 in Wilkes County, North Carolina [Book 1:70] named a wife Jane and a son-in-law Morris Baker among others. James Baker and Andrew Baker were named as executors. Morris died by November 10, 1810 when letters of administration on his estate were issued to Zachariah Baker and Alex Smith. The court was ordered to allot one year's provisions to the widow (unnamed) From THE HERITAGE OF WILKES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, VOLUME II, 1990, page 133, Morris and Patsy Smith Baker were the parents of the following: Zachariah and James who married daughters of Captain John Cox. Jonathan Baker who married Mary Koontz. Jeremiah Baker whose son Morris may have married a daughter of John Koontz. Robert who married Jane Reeves. Mary (Polly) Baker who married Meredith Ballou. Jane Baker who married John Williams. Nancy Baker who married Edward Hart. Susannah Baker who married John Stringer. Baker who married William Caldwell, and Esther Baker who married Enoch Baldwin, Jr. Court records reveal that Morris Baker died in 1810-1811 and his sons Zachariah and Jonathan were in charge of settling the estate. There were two children under age and they jointly asked that their mother Patsy Baker be named guardian. Ester was soon married to Enoch Baldwin, Jr. And they went to Ohio to live for a while. When her name was called out she did not have any representation so the court record "called and failed" was given.
