Elizabeth Butterfield, died May, 22. 1883 age 74y 1m. Her maiden name was Avery and she married Green Butterfield in Columbus, Ohio. They came to Ill. in 1834 and settled in Schuyler Co. until 1845 when they moved to where Galesburg now stands, but which was almost trackless prairie. In 1861 they moved to Macomb where her husband died shortly after arriving here. They were a family of 10 children of which two survive, Mrs. George Gloyd and G.G. Butterfield.

Elizabeth "Betsy" AVERY and Green BUTTERFIELD were married on 19 September 1826 in Franklin County, Ohio. Green BUTTERFIELD was born in 1802 in New York. He died on 19 November 1861 at the age of 59 in McDonough County, Illinois.

" The Carving of Clasped Hands on this Headstone could be the depiction of a man holding a woman's hand and indicate a marriage or close bond between individuals, unity and affection even after death. Clasped hands are also symbolic of a farewell or last goodbye. "

A message board post suggested that Green had a sister Brittania Butterfield Gillett - I've found nothing else about this family.

William said to have married Indiana Morrell, 1853. He died of a fever, 1873, Macomb, McDonough Co, IL.



Louisa BUTTERFIELD was born in 1833 in Illinois.



Ellen BUTTERFIELD was born in 1836 in Illinois.



Granville BUTTERFIELD was born in 1840 in Illinois.



Lucretia BUTTERFIELD was born on 23 August 1845 in Illinois. She died on 1 June 1868 at the age of 22 in McDonough County, Illinois.

Lucretia is buried Gibson Cemetery along with her father. There is the carving of a full blown rose on her stone - "indicated the deceased died in the Prime of Life"



Benjamin Monroe BUTTERFIELD was born in 1848 in Illinois.
