John ARNOLD22 was born on 19 February 1647/8 in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.12 He died on 5 January 1722/3 at the age of 74 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island.18 John was born 19th day of the 12th mo of 1647 [old style dating] at Watertown. Last Monday in May 1671, John pledged allegiance to King Charles II of England. In Feb of 1670, he had been granted 16 acres at World's End in Providence on the right of Thomas Arnold Sr. [his father]. On 19 Nov 1685, 25 acres were laid out to him on the right of Benjamin Smith. Another 4 1/2 acres was laid out on 4 Jun 1703. John's father died, Sept 1674, and John inherited: John owned a tannery and lived at the north end of Providence on the road leading to Pawtucket. He was appointed constable 4 Jun 1683. John's wife was Hannah, surname unknown. It is thought he may not have married until after the death of his mother, who was no longer listed on tax rolls by 1688. 1 Jun 1702, John was appointed sergeant but his "weakness" made him incapable to officate. Only one known child is known, Jonathan, born perhaps 1700. 30 Nov 1709. John Arnold was "of" Woonsocket when he recorded the earmark for his cattle. John Arnold was elected a deputy to the Rhode Island General Assembly on 27 Apr 1716. John died 5 Jan 1722/3 as indicated in his probate records. Administration of his estate was granted his widow Hannah and his son Jonathan on 4 Feb 1722/3. John ARNOLD and Hannah [ARNOLD] were married. Hannah [ARNOLD] died by 1688 in Rhode Island.
