Smithfield was created 1731 out of Providence - wasn't necessary for the Comstocks to move as they were incorporated into Smithfield.

Smithfield, RI, DB 1, p.304 26 Mar 1731 Deed of partition between Hazadiah Comstock, son of Capt Samuel Comstock, John Arnold, son of Capt Richard Arnold Dec'd, and William and Daniel Arnold, sons of said John Arnold, all of Smithfield. Town of Providence, 14 Apr 1707, granted Capt. Richard Arnold and Capt. Samuel Comstock a parcel of land at the time within the township of Providence but now within Smithfield, known by the name of Wonsocut. Land was never divided between the two men. Now set to run between Hazadiah Comstock's dwelling house and Daniel Arnolds, [various metes and bounds], comes to Pawtucket River.

There are many, many deeds of Hazadiah and his sons, not noted here.

Smithfield, RI, DB 1, p.91-92 29 May 1733 Hazadiah to son William 84 acres. Boundaries mention line between Hazadiah and David Comstock [nephew of Hazadiah] and the orchard of David Comstock, and lands of William Comstock.

The land was on both sides of the highway on the north side of the Great Hollow, bounded on the north & west by John Arnold, on the south by Thomas Smith, and on the east with Balcom. [This is undoubtedly a sale of land that belonged to Capt Samuel Comstock, father of most of the above named] The deed was recorded 10 Feb 1735/1736.

Gideon COMSTOCK49,85 was born on 4 November 1709.89 He died in 1801 at the age of 92.90

This record from Smithfield does not agree with the Comstock books which list this marriage as 1729:
Smithfield Vital Records, Vol 1
Smithfield, 3 Mar 1738/9
Gideon COMSTOCK
Ruth ARNOLD
by Thomas Sayles, Justice of Peace
recorded 18 Feb 1739
Gideon and Ruth were 2nd cousins, once removed.

There are some differences in the births and names as transcribed from Smithfield Births online:
COMSTOCK, Adam s Gideon Ruth 18 Jan 1739/40
COMSTOCK, Alpha d Gideon Ruth 12 Mar 1741/2
COMSTOCK, Ruth d Gideon Ruth 13 Jul 1744
COMSTOCK, Free d Gideon Ruth 14 Feb 1745/6

The Comstock book also states that Gideon married 2nd to Freelove Arnold, widow of Josiah, and third Amey, surname unknown. The only wife known to Josiah was Amey Phillips so likely she was the widow Arnold who married Gideon.

Gideon was on a list of freemen from Smithfield in 1747. A Gideon Comstock was also listed in Providence in 1748. Only one Gideon Comstock was known to be living in Rhode Island at that time.

Gideon was administrator of the estate of his father-in-law Richard Arnold. Richard Arnold had left Rhode Island and was presumed death. Gideon brought suit against Thomas Man, who had married Richard's widow in 1743. Gideon said Man had taken away personal estate of Arnold in the amount of 275 £. Man did not pay and was jailed.

John COMSTOCK85 was born on 16 April 1724 in Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.89 He died on 16 May 1790 at the age of 66 in Smithfield, Providence County, Rhode Island.26

The Comstock books have this family very confused. John's wife Ruth, born 1724, could not have been the mother of the younger children ascribed to this family. Yet when John died, his widow was Ruth. I believe it is likely that John married twice, both times to a lady named Ruth [probably Ruth Aldrich] and the second Ruth was much younger resulting in a second family. Any descendants of this family should obtain the original records for clarity.

John Comstock of Smithfield was admitted to vote 5 May 1752. He was on a list of freemen from Smithfield, 1753

1774 Census of Smithfield. John Comstock had 4 males over 16, two males under 16, and 4 females over 16. Since this is just the number of people in the household, it is impossible to determine if all were one family, or some were servants, or other relatives. By 1774, Ruth was surely past child-bearing age.

12 Jul 1788 John deeded 1/2 of the home farm to sons William and Levi. Later records of theirs indicate they were very young and were not counted in 1774. John would have been quite old and may have been guaranteeing this property for the sons born to the second wife.

Ruth Comstock, widow, and Wanton, her son, presented John's inventory 21 Jun 1790. [My question her is did this record actually state that Wanton was Ruth's son, or did it refer to Wanton as a son of John Comstock, deceased. That could be key to whether or not Ruth is Wanton's stepmother, not his mother.]
Here is what one record actually says and it does NOT state that Wanton was anyone's son, just that he was Administrator and Ruth, Widow, was administratrix.

After John's death, Ruth married Francis Hamilton. Apparently they were in Oneida Co, NY by 1800 - please read second wife Ruth Aldrich's notes.

22 Feb 1805. William & Levi Comstock of Paris, Oneida Co NY, deed Stephen Charles Mowry 1/2 of a farm in Smithfield, RI, where our father John lived and died excepting the dower of Ruth Hamilton out of said deed. [Although this deed states that John was the father of William & Levi that lived in Oneida Co, it apparently did not say that the dower of Ruth Hamilton was that of their mother, although I believe she would have been.]

3 Sep 1810. William Comstock & Patty his wife, Kanah Mills & Joanna his wife, all of Paris, Oneida Co NY. Oliver Gillette & Rhoda his wife of Hamilton, Oneida Co NY, are seized in fee of land late in possession of John Comstock, dec'd. The said William, Joanna, & Rhoda being natural heirs of Nancy Comstock, dec'd who was heir of John Comstock, they appoint Levi Comstock their attorney to lands of our sister Nancy, dec'd.
[This is probably regarding the property of their sister Nancy - perhaps a half-sister - that had died in 1795. It doesn't include other siblings, but it does include those living in New York that appeared to be the younger, second family of John Comstock, dec'd. They were likely all minors at the time of Nancy's death and could not have taken possession of their inheritance then.]

Hazadiah COMSTOCK and Martha BALCOM were married on 10 August 1730 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island.2,28 Martha BALCOM, daughter of Joseph BALCOM and Phebe [BALCOM], was born on 23 May 1714.48,93 She died on 6 May 1794 at the age of 79.48
