Aunt Mattie's husband had already died by 1940; children, Neva, Frances, John, all died as young adults in reverse order of their ages. Mattie used to have an annual family reunion in Tahlequah which was their home for many years. She had a huge white house; it was great fun to explore. She kept boarders that attended the college in Tahlequah.

From the King home were Nita and Frances, deceased; Mrs. Eva Fulcher, Mrs. Iva Trvilian, Mrs. Sula Peeler, Mrs. Winnie Bice, John, Lester, and Mrs. Josie Davis.

Died at her home in Talequah while her sister Nora was visiting. Buried Tahlequah City Cemetery.

Talequah (Special) -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Rowena King, 80, will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church here with the pastor, Reverend Bill Henry, officiating.
Burial will be in Tahlequah City Cemetery with Reed-Culver Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers will include Clell Yeager, Ray Jarvis, James Molloy, Bill Hinds, Keith Holland, and Ray Holden.
Mrs. King died in a Tahlequah hospital of a heart attack Friday. Born February 10, 1882 in Cave, Arkansas, she had lived in the Tahlequah area since 1926.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church and its WSCS, Tahlequah Study Club and Daisy Garden Club.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Joseph Fulcher, Tulsa, Mrs. Harvy Trevilian, Mount Vernon, New York, Mrs. Arthur David, Arlington Virginia, Mrs. Harry Thelham, New York City, and Mrs. Winnie Bice, Broken Arrow; two sisters, Mrs. K.M. Comstock, Springdale, Arkansas, and Mrs. Ira Comstock, Van Buren, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Aug 9 & 10, 1980 - The Hays family had a reunion organized by David A. King - out of town visitors stayed at the Western Hills Resort in Wagoner, Oklahoma. I found the letter from David to my mother (JoEllen McKim) with her reservation card. He mentioned a floral arrangements was to be placed in the sanctuary of the Methodist Church in memory of our loved ones. I'm quite sure this was the last time these cousins were together There was a list of attendees included:

Mattie Rowena HAYS and David KING were married on 15 July 1900 in Crawford County, Arkansas.233 David KING113,240 was born on 26 August 1880 in Missouri.162,233 He died on 19 August 1931 at the age of 50 in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma.162

An online database gave his name as William David King and stated he was the son of a David King, b. 21 Nov 1845 in TN and Mary A Rinehart, b. 11 Jan 1847, also in TN. They married 10 Feb 1870.

I found no David King in Crawford or Sebastian County in 1900 - Mattie was listed at home with her parents that year. Nor did I find any trace of his parents David & Mary.

Arvil Edmond KING was born on 29 November 1905 in Crawford County, Arkansas.148 He died on 20 December 1905 at the age of 0 in Crawford County, Arkansas.148

Until I found this baby's grave in Crawford County, no one living seemed to know anything about this child. He was born about eleven years before my mother so she and her siblings likely would not have known.

Said to be the "black sheep"; and had an alcohol problem.

Not listed as surviving his mother in 1962 - he was still living in 1951 when mentioned in a newspaper article. His brother John's obituary in January of 1960, mentioned a brother living, and Lester would be the only possibility.

Frances KING239 was born in 1915 in Oklahoma. She died before 1951 at the age of 36.113

Frances perhaps married a teacher in Tahlequah. Had at least one daughter, who may have been named Frances Ann.

Not listed as surviving in mother's obituary and she was listed as deceased in a newspaper article in 1951.

Mildred KING was born in 1919 in Oklahoma. She died before 1930 at the age of 11.

Mildred must have died young - she did not appear with the family in 1930 and no one has ever mentioned this infant. She appears only in the 1920 census.
