German Streusel Muffins

1/3 cup SHORTENING
1/2 SUGAR
1 EGG
1 1/2 cups all-purpose FLOUR
1 1/2 tsp. BAKING POWDER
1/2 tsp. SALT
1/4 tsp. NUTMEG
1/2 cup MILK

Mix thoroughly, shortening, sugar and egg. Stir in dry ingredients alternately with milk. Fill muffin pans two-thirds full and bake until done. Bake at 350 degrees 20 to 25 minutes.

Topping:
1/2 cup SUGAR
1/4 cup ground ALMONDS
1 tsp. CINNAMON
1/2 cup BUTTER

Mix one-half cup sugar, the ground almonds and the cinnamon together well. Melt one-half cup butter. Immediately after baking, roll in melted butter, then in the almond, cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve hot. Makes 15 muffins.
