Treasurer's Report

Why do we do fundraisers? Many of you may know why but for those that don’t it is important to understand the rationale. The School Board only provides funding for Mr. Harris’ salary and the band room facility. Everything else including, but not limited to, copier, supplies, band instrument purchase, instructors, and instrument repair is paid by money generated by the kids and the Association. All these necessary costs of doing strictly band business is around $18,000. That cost averages to about $135 per band student. Since we can’t expect all parents to pay this out of their pocket we must do fundraisers.

The actual budget this year has about $34,000 in expenses. The additional $16,000 is mainly due to the cost of doing fundraisers (we get about $1 for each $2 of sales), uniform expenses, and some subsidizing of the year end field trip for the kids that have worked hard fundraising. If we generate $34,000 in income this year (we did $38,000 last year) then our expenses will be balanced and we can use the money carried forward this year ($9723) to establish a uniform purchase account (around $6000) and still leave around $3700 going into next school year.

As of the end of July we had $7665.49 in our account. We were down about $2000 from our beginning balance mainly due to the purchase of a bassoon.
