He married LETITIA ELEANOR "ELLA" REID March 04, 1890 in Chesley, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada, daughter of JOHN REID and SARAH HALL. She was born December 17, 1868 in Mono Twp., Simcoe Co., Ontario, Canada, and died January 08, 1936 in 474 Glenlake Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Notes for REV. DAVID "DENTON" FRANKS:

There are numerous Franks in Yorkshire, England where David Denton Franks claimed to have been born, and he certainly was educated in Yorkshire. However, a search of the St. Catherine's

records has failed to turn up any birth registration for David Denton Franks, born 14 Feb 1855. That his parents failed to register his birth seems unlikely, given their middleclass roots. He may have been registered under the name Denton for obvious reasons, and later appended the name Franks when his mother married.

But David (Denton) may also have been the son of one Thomas Frank(s), a Yorkshire miner and Barbara Leckenby. Thomas, age 21 and already widowed, and Barbara, also age 21, were married in April 1842, in Hawnsby. Their children included a David, baptized fairly closely to David Denton's birth date, and at least two girls.

Whoever he was, David grew up and joined the ministry, eventually immigrating to Canada. In a glowing obituary written by his friend, Thomas Snowdon, David Denton Franks was remembered as a fellow student at East Keswisk College, near Leeds, Yorkshire, England. Other students included the late JL Batty, Edmund Duckworth, rector of the Church of the Redeemer in St. Louis, Missouri & Wm Moulding Baker, pastor of First Congregational Church, Flint, Michigan.

All these young men were dispatched to different parts of the United Empire in 1881. "Brother Franks" served first in Muskoka, where he travelled on foot. He changed churches annually until he met his future wife in McKellar in 1889. After the children were born, David and his family tended to remain in one place for two or three years. "At all these places he did good work," Thomas Snowdon recalled. "Conscientious and painstaking in his preparation for the pulpit, somewhat reserved in demeanour, but making many warm and loving friends, who will cherish his memory for years to come." Six months later in a thank you note, David Denton Franks' wife, the former Letitia E. Reid, added simply: "He was one of the best husbands and fathers."
