Sir,
We have been instructed by Mr. Herman Myer of Waireka farmer
to bring under your notice the fact that in the certificate
granted to him to permit his marriage the name of his intended
wife was inserted as Catherine Theresa Lawrence whereas it
should have been Catherine Theresa Mc Kee. Myer is a foreigner
and only knew his wife about a week before his marriage to her
& when he asked his intended what her mother's name was she
understood him to ask what her maiden name had been & she
answered Lawrence. Her married name was Mc Kee. In case of any
question ever arising it might be as well to note in your index
this mistake & preserve this letter as it seems there is no way of
altering the register.

She was married to Henry Herman MEYER on 23 Jun 1887 in Oamaru.⁽¹⁴¹⁹⁾ Bride Stated as Catherine Theresa McKee. Witnesses were Freiderick and Dora Neiss. Most of Myers in Orakanui ? Jack Roberston says the fire disturbed them. Family were incarcerated in WW1. He went to Somes Island and was selling newspapers on the streets of Wellington after his release. Later a newspaper seller in Christchurch.
There was a David Meyer who appeared on TV on behalf of Surf Life Saving Federation who looks a lot like JE O'Brien; worth following up.
There seems to be quite a large McCabe family who lived in Timaru. There is another Catherine McCabe who married Thomas Hill 27 Jun 1894 at St Joseph's Cathedral, Timaru.
Several McCabe males also married about that time. There is no record in 1893 or 1894 of Catherine McCabe marrying a Meyer. another child was born in 1894 Catherine Sophia (B#4088/1894) which should be investigated.
