The death occurred on Sunday afternoon after a short illness of Mr Michael Joseph Mahoney aged 72 years. The late Mr Mahoney was born in Guernsey (Channel Islands) and came out to New Zealand with his parents 52 years ago. For 35 years he was employed by the Public Works Dept and for 5 years he was engaged on the lay of the main trunk line between Ohingaiti and Taihape. He also helped lay the railway line through the Manawatu Gorge. After severing his connection with the Public Works Dept. Mr Mahoney was employed by the Railways Dept and later by the Taihape Borough Council. For over 20 years he lived in Taihape and was well known & highly respected. About three months ago he left Taihape to live in Mangaweka with his only son Mr Leslie Mahoney. Last Thursday he was admitted to the Taihape Hospital suffering from an attack of pneumonia from which he failed to rally and passed away at 2pm on Sunday afternoon 31 July 1927. In addition to his widow and only son, Mr L. G. P. Mahoney, Mangaweka, Deceased leaves a siste, Mrs R. Fogden, Carterton; a stepson Mr W. Gardner, Taihape & a stepdaughter Mrs W.G. Hodder, Frankton Junction, to mourn his loss, besides a wide circle of friends in Taihape and the surrounding districts. He is buried Taihape cemetery. Electrical engineer, Managaweka in charge of Power Station. Later Town Clerk. There is also a John, who was a farmer, buried at Taihape born in 1857. Parents: Patrick MAHONEY and Norah JONES.
