He had a pistol; Von Luckner had a gunboat. A telegram was sent by Von Luckner, through the mediium of the Governor General, to HC Hill's family on his death. This was also reported in the Star. and referred to by Bonnie Dickson in her letter to Dot of 14 Mar 1950.
He saw service in Natal, engaged in a rubber concession in Portugese East Africa and had a business on Nine Island (Fiji group ?). After the war became a second mate on several of the P. &. O. line ships. Later joined the Health Dept as an Inspector in the Islands and in 1926 joined the City Council (Auckland) as an Inspector. Survived by his two children
