About 1900 Inn was closed by police after a fight in which a man was killed; was found that the police in Lybster and those to the south were too far away to give supervision. The inn house was bought about 5 years ago (i.e. abt 1975) by the present owners from a person named Gunn. John Cormack was the innkeeper pevious to his wife. [SC]

'In 1886 the new hotel was opened, and competed with the "Caley" for the tourist and commercial traffic. At this time it passed from the hands of Mr George Leith (who succeeded his father) to that of Mr Coghill, a native of the town, recently come from the south. He was a teenant until 1868 when Mr and Mrs James Nicol took over the business. Under their able management it prospered until 1891, when they cahnged over to the Station Hotel, that being the name adopted for the hotel when Mr W. F. Ireland took possession in 1881. Mr Nicol was succeeded by Mr Wm. Stewart, who emigrated to America in 1893. He in turn was succeeded by Mr James Cormack, who has continued there since.
