In the early days of the church, the congregation consisted of these families, Otterson, Dugan, Crenshaw, Gordon, Johnson, Valentine, Buford, Caldwell, and Hamilton. Major Samuel Otterson and Mrjor Thomas Gordon were elders. (Note: Samuel Gordon is mentioned in the will of Robert Crenshaw. That will can be found in File 7, page 9. Robert Crenshaw purchased a plantation from Gordon in Union and Newberry Counties and that plantation is the one he left to Randolph Crenshaw. The Dugans married into the SC Crenshaws. A family group sheet shows that James Dugan married Frances Crenshaw. See Crenshaw File 5, page 1. The Buford name is one from Cumberland Parish in Lunenburg. Robert Crenshaw's wife was a daughter of Henry Buford.) (Also take note that there is a suggestion in these names that Robert Crenshaw's move into South Carolina was in company with his wife's relatives and not connected with other Crenshaw migrations. Robert and Elizabeth seem to have made the journey to Union District after the death of Robert's father. The distribution from that estate gave Robert slaves which he needed in South Carolina. John, oldest son of Robert did not make the move but lived in Mecklenburg County, VA. Some of Robert's other children were slow to break off relations with Virginia. Randolph was one. He too married a Stringfellow in VA.) <<<<<>>>>> Confederate Soldiers Mississippi From research of Sally Adams Lee of 151 Tanyard Lake Circle, Adamsville, TN 38310-9802. Thomas W.
