Solomon Cox Headstone @ Coker Cemetery
++++++++++
He married Anna Cooper, a daughter of Sherod And Lula "Luley" (Wilkerson) Cooper, in Livingston County, Missouri on August 29, 1839, and as they moved farther Westward and farther Southward, they had Several babies together. Those babies grew up, married and had more babies. This is the story that ties them all together for the future generations..

Solomon Cox, accompanied by two sons and two daughters and their families, moved by wagon train to Cooper County, Missouri, arriving there in the
fall of 1818 [1828?], according to "Joseph Cox, Ancestors and Descendants."
He was mentioned in the will of his father written September 9, 1819 in Hocking County, Ohio as co-executor with his mother and was to receive one-half of the livestock included in the estate. William Dixon and Solomon Cox attended to the probate of the will in Hocking County July 3, 1820.

Solomon COX mentions in will;

Mary Dixon Williams Cox died about 1829 in Ray County, Missouri.
It is believed that the "white female, 80-90" enumerated above was Naomi "Amy" Hussey Cox who had accompanied her son in the move to Missouri. She probably died in Ray County at age 88-plus.

Notes for ROLAN Y. STRANGE:
There is a controversy as to whether Roland's father is Samuel Strange or Henry Strange or even someone else. Roland's birth date fits nicely as the first child of Samuel Strange. In 1830 census, however, Samuel of Halifax Co Va, the only Samuel lsited in the whole 1830 census, has no male child lsited. On the other hand, 1830 Henry Strange on the same census page has 2 male children 5 and under, which makes him a likely candidate for Roland father. Mrs. Addie Strange, with of Samuel Adams Strange son of Samuel Strange--brother of Roland Strange says that Henry was Roland's father. 1880 Census of Roland says both his parents born in VA
Henry Stranges father is reported to have come from Scotland and to have been related to Sir Robert Strange, the Artist of London. 1 Martin is said to live in Alabama, John was killed in the rebillion, Paul died in Missouri, Joseph died in California and Roland lived in Kansas. Ben lives in Colorado and Calvin is thought to be dead. A nephew of Samuel Adams named Samuel T., lives in Montana. Samuel Adams has two children W. L. and Charles A. both live in Tokoma (TacomaWashington).

Solomon W. Cox was born in Ohio September 17, 1820. No one knew , at that time , that he'd be getting buried in the wild, nearly untamed area of Cooweescoowee in the Cherokee Nation.....Present-day Nowata County, Oklahoma, almost exactly sixty years later. His headstone sits, among others, on a hillside, about six miles east of Nowata, in a small, fenced-in area known as Coker Cemetery.
++++++++++
We still don't know much about Solomon's progenitors, but we do know enough to record the following;
Here's the circumstantial evidence of
OUR Solomon Cox's lineage.
The following appears in the Hussey Manuscript .042 compiled by Arlee Gowen:
Click here for more info ;
Les Sutton's Worldconnect SITE
Solomon Cox and Mary Dixon Williams Cox deeded land in Hocking County to Merida Kesterson December 14, 1822, according to Hocking County Deed Book A, page 336. They were involved in another land transaction there June 13, 1828, according to Hocking County Deed Book B, page 88.
This shows they were still in Ohio in 1820 !

---------------
We're not sure of just when and where Solomon and the rest of the family crossed into Indian Territory, but since his Daughter, Elizabeth was married to the Cherokee Joseph C. Brown, and had the following children;
Sarah Ellen BROWN b: Mar 1878 in Cooweescoowee District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory,
Nation, Indian Territory,
Then we would have to think that it would have been in the area of 1877 or thereabouts. Alas, we are unable to find any of these "pioneers" listed on census or anything else, but we know they were here. "Intruders" would not necessarily always cooperate with census and/or law authorities. So for the time being, how about we call them the original "SOONERS".
James Harvey Ferrel steps into the picture next, Marrying the widow Elizabeth Cox Brown, sometime after her husband, Joseph dies.
He lives long enough to plant the seed of his son, Johnathan Asbury Farrell, before finding his resting place , between his Father-in-Law, Solomon Cox and his Brother,who was also named Johnathan Asbury.
+++++++++++++
Elizabeth,(or "Betty") evidently not enjoying her status as a widow,
marries again, this time to Robert Lincoln Hall.
On January 15, 1885, she gives birth to George Newton "NEWT" Hall. He and his
older Half-Brother, Johnathan "John" Asbury Farrell, grow up
together in and around the boom-town of Nowata. Elizabeth keeps
having kids, about every other year for awhile.

died 1925 in Oberlin, Decatur co. Kansas.
She married (2) ROLAN STRANGE.
Generation No. 1
"18 Jan 1841 born Missouri. Per John Farrell email, parents were Anna Cooper and Solomon Cox (md. 29 Aug 1839 in Livingston County MO.)
Married 1st Mr. Deering
17 May 1865 Mary Alice Deering born. (Indian Territory, OKlahoma)
18 Oct 1867 Grandison Theodore Deering born (Leavenworth, KS)
1869 A Deering born, likely a daughter of Mary. Not proved.
5 Mar 1880 Carra or Carrie Deering born Kansas
7 Mar 1880 daughter Mary Alice married Francis Marion Strange.
4 Jul 1886 Marysville, Marshall Kansas, married Roland Y. Strange. (her daughter's father-in-law) Roland's first wife, Matilda Gross
died 10 Feb 1886. Flossie Jessup note says Mary was a widow too.
1887: in Marysville, Marshall Kansas cemetery where Roland's first wife, Matilda Strange is buried, there are two stones close to her. 10 feet from her stone is a stone that says "infant son of F.M. & M. A. Strange. (Francis Marion and Mary Alice Deering Strange's baby). Then just 4 feet behind that is a larger stone that says "A Deering Died July 1887 18 yrs. We'll miss you dear sister."
This is strong circumstantial evidence to me that A Deering is Mary Deering's sister Note: 1900 census indicates Mary had 7 children, 3 living, but the 1910 census shows 4 children, 3 living. There is a pretty big gap between Granidson b. in 1887 and Carre in 1880 which would suggest 7 may be more correct. Perhaps she had 7 pregnancies with 4 children that lived until 18 yrs old daughter A. Deering died, leaving the 3.
1893: "In 1893 they moved to a farm four miles west of Alton. there they resided until 1905, moving from the there to Alton." This from A card received from Sam Saville (which also) conveys the information of the death of Mr. R. Y. Strange on the 22nd inst. at Alton, Osborne Co., Mr. Strange was one of the early settlers of Blue Rapids City Twp and had attained the age of 82 years and 26 days.
Per obituary for Grandma Strange (Mary Lutitia Strange).. (Blue Rapids News 8/25/1908 as found by Sharon Capezza - net.)
14 Sept 1900 "The Marshall County Friends of R Y Strange will be pleased to learn of that gentleman's success in a financial way in Osborne Co., as indicated by the following from the Alton Empire. "RY Strange has added another quarter section to his holdings. He recently purchased the Thogmartin quarter in Round Mound."
1925 Burial Valley Cemetery )this is probably in Alton Kansas."
Carol Minson Notes; "In answer to my letter, the City Clerk of Alton Kansas wrote: I contacted Carra Deering Hatfield, the step daughter of Rolan Strange, but she could not give me the information about father and mother's name...Carra thought he was born VA. Jan 16 1958."
Maiden Name of Rolan Strange's 2nd wife: "Mary L. Cox." Source correspondence with Flossie Jessup, Aug 19 1962. Comment: I am assuming Mary Cox was married # 1 to a Deering.
Birth: From Flossie Jessup, Aug 19 1962. Also Mary's first marriage information.
Marriage: 2nd Mg of Rolan Strange: "Mg to Mrs. M. L. Deering in 1886." (1 Feb 1992: Letter from helen Kracht, 506 Walnut St. Marysville, Kansas 66508). This further substantiates the data I already had of Roland's mg to Mary Luticia Cox Deering 4 Jul 1886 Marysville.
