He was a lumberman. In 1907 he helped build a church for the newly organized Methodists and was ordained as a minister. They moved to West Virginia and he pastored a church at Matoaka (1920). Later they moved to Jewel Ridge, Tazwell County, where he had a general store. Both are buried at Richlands, Virginia.

She married DOLPHUS KISER. (Dolphus Kiser is #1557.) Dolphus was born 28 November 1874. Dolphus was the son of Unknown and Martha Kiser. Dolphus died 24 April 1948 at 73 years of age. He taught school; worked in the coal company offices at Wilder and Bartlick; and operated a country store at Bucu. Later they moved to Clintwood; then to a small farm at Tacoma, Wise County, Va, and lastly to Bucu. Dora was postmistress at Bucu and was the first woman to serve as a justice of the peace in Dickenson County, Va. Naturally artistic, she did sketching and painting as a hobby. both are buried in the WILLIAM B. SUTHERLAND Cemetary on Frying Pan Creek. COUNTS F-1988 pg 279

He married DORA THORNE SUTHERLAND. (Dora Thorne Sutherland is #7157.) Dora was born 9 Aug 1883. Dora was the daughter of Zachary Taylor Sutherland Sr. and Malissa Kiser. He taught school; worked in the coal company offices at Wilder and Bartlick; and operated a country store at Bucu. Later they moved to Clintwood; then to a small farm at Tacoma, Wise County, Va, and lastly to Bucu. Dora was postmistress at Bucu and was the first woman to serve as a justice of the peace in Dickenson County, Va. Naturally artistic, she did sketching and painting as a hobby. both are buried in the WILLIAM B. SUTHERLAND Cemetary on Frying Pan Creek. COUNTS F-1988 pg 279
