She married ROBERT CARTER.  (Robert Carter is #55.)  On October 16, 1817, Philip and Anna Counts executed a deed to Robert Carter for a tract of 79 acres on the west side of Hawksbill Creek.  "the same is a part of a certain tract of 159 acres on which was granted to the said Philip Countz by John Counts and Magdalene his wife by their certain deed of bargain and sale dated July 27th, 1802."  (Shenandoah County Deed Book -214).  They built a home at the foot of the hill and lived on this farm, which is north of the old Counts home in Hawksbill Valley.  On October 1, 1842, they executed a deed to Henry Brumback for the consideration of $975.00 for two tracts of land "on the west side of Hawksbill Creek, one of these tracts of land was conveyed by Philip Kountz by deed bearing date October the sixteenth. eighteen hundred & seventeen," both tracts containing 89 acres.  In 1895, Andrew J. Brumback obtained this land by will from his father, Henry Brumback, Jr. Dying two years later, he left the land by will to his widow, Florence A. Brumback.  She later married Hamp C. Cameron and they were living at the old Carter Home in 1936.
The Census of 1830, Shenandoah County, shows Robert Carter as head of a house with one male between 40-50, one female between 30-40, one male between 15-20, one male and one female between 10-15, one male and one female between 5-10, and one male under 5.
An inventory and sale bill of one Robert Carder's (sp) estate was made in 1846 in Page County, VA, and recorded in Will Book C, page 124.  John Lyonberger was administrator of the estate and a settlement was recorded in Will Book C, page 178.
Before 1850, the family had left the Valley of Virginia.  In that year, on July 25, Elizabeth Carter was the head of her family living in Barbour County, West Virginia.  Six of her children were with her, and two others, Eppa and David, were heads of neighboring families.  She was still living there in 1860, a widow with $4,000.00 of real estate and $1030.00 of personal property.
After the death of Elizabeth's brother, Jacob, John R. Wilson brought suit against David Wilson and others in 1871 for the sale of the estate of her father, as provided in his will.  The complaintant in this suit stated that "Your orator further represents that the children and daughters' husbands of the said Elizabeth Carter who are now living and the representatives of those who are dead, are as follows:  David Wilson and Jane his wife who was Jane Carter, Philip Carter, James W. McGuffin and Anna R his wife who was Ann R. Carter, David G. Carter, Charles B. Carter, Salathia Cross, a granddaughter of Elizabeth Carter, _ ?_  Allender and Emily his wife who was Emily Cross, and is a Granddaughter of Elizabeth Carter, her mother being dead, Appa R. Carter, Joseph Casane and Mary E. his wife, who was Mary E. Carter."  The sheriff's return on process in this cause was:  "No inhabitants."

Carter, conveyed his interest in the "estate of James A. Carter, dec'd" and others to Legran Wilson.  It is assumed this refers to James Carter and that he died unmarried and without children.

Jessee.
"Years after Ab's death, Polly married Jim Chafin, but no children were born to them.  They lived in Reeds Valley among the Jessees.  Jim Chafin was a bad drukard, not providing for his wife and otherwise mistreating her.  Uncle Abe Childress, who married her girl Frankie, went and got her and took her home to live with them.  Her husband sobered up and went to Abe's and said:  "Cursed is he that parteth a man and his wife."  He then put his hat on and walked out.  Mrs. Chafin did not live very long after this.  She died of dropsy.  I believe she was buried at Little Arch Jesse Graveyard in Reeds Valley.  She died before I was married.  I saw her several times."  Per a letter fo E. J. Sutherland by Mahala Kiser Sutherland, ovember 20, 1924, and published in his Pioneer Recollections, page 387/388.  Mahala's parents were Joseph and Mary "Polly" Childress Kiser.
Note:  Some researchers say that Mary "Polly" and Jim Chafin had one child, John Chafin, b. about 1828.  Others say there were no children born of this marriage.  I have not found proof either way.
Additional note:  According to Joyce Kiser Logan, now deceased, Mary "Polly" Jesse was part Cherokee Indian.  However, no other researchers have come to this conclusion, and Joyce never offered any proof of her claim.
He lived on a farm near Carbo, Va.  He was a Baptist preacher and assisted in the organization of the Washington District Baptist Association in 1811.  This district included Western Virginia and parts of Eastern Kentucky.
On August 2, 1814, he enlisted as a private in the War of 1812 in Capt. John Hamon's Company of the 6th Regiment of the Virginia Militia, which was commanded by Lieut. Col. Henry E. Coleman, and was sent to Norfold with his command.  There he died of disease 3 days later, and was buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk.  His widow later obtained a pension for his services.
In 1924, his niece, Rachel Kiser, the daughter of Ephriam, stated that her father had gone to the Norfolk War before he was married; that he had "loaded cannon with log chains, scrap iron and everything.  He offered to take the place of his brother Ab, who was married and had a family, but Uncle Ab said 'No brother, you've served your turn - I'll serve mine'."
The appraisment of his property was ordered by the Russell County Court on October 15, 1814, and the appraisal list was filed by Jesse Fuller, James Sutherland, and Thomas Francis, appraisers, and John Jessee was appointed his administrator.

April 1852 in Russell Co, Va, at 65 years of age.
He married NANCY LONG.  (Nancy Long is #103.)  Nancy was born 4 March 1793.  Nancy was the daughter of
Richard Long and Elizabeth Burney.  Nancy died 12 June 1868 at 75 years of age.  I have found records for some of
Nancy's siblings. She had a sister Sarah "Sallie" Long, b. ca 1798 who married Joseph Counts, see Some Descendants of
John Counts, (Counts C-11 pg... 101).  She had a brother, James Long, who was a large slave owner in Alabama.  About
1859 he willed five of his slaves to their sister Sallie and her husband Joseph Counts.  Her other brother, Henry Dickenson
Long, b. ca 1794, d. ca 1877, married Margaret Counts (Counts C-15, pg... 186), b. ca 1797, d. ca 1858, d/o John and
Margaret Kelly Counts (Counts B-3, pg... 80).  He (Henry) purchased 400 acres at Castlewood, Virginia on 1 Jul 1817 and
sold same to John Long on 30 Aug 1827 (DB 8-53).  About this time they moved to Franklin County, Alabama, and
remained there a few years before moving to Tishomingo County, Mississippi.  He became the owner of a large plantation in
the vicinity of Cartersville near the county seat of Iuka.  The 1860 Census, Tishomingo County, Mississippi, valued his real
estate at $4,000 and his personal property, including slaves, at $35,000.  It was said that he had so many slaves that he did
not know all of them.  All this wealth was swept away by the Civil War.  He and his wife made trips back to Virginia from
time to time to see their relatives.  They made the trip by carriage - one for them and one for the servants (slaves).  They said
it took 6 weeks to go there and back.  Both he and his wife are buried on the plantation. Nancy Long Kiser was given slaves
by her brother Henry Long.  (Pioneer Recollections by E. J. Sutherland).

1 female 30-40 2 males 5-10 2 males 10-15 2 females under 5 1 female 5-10 Per Rachel Kiser Kiser leter 19 Nov 1924, Carbo, Virginia, to E. J. Sometime after 1835, Polly took her children to Letcher County, Kentucky, and lived with her son Nimrod.  They settled on Camp Branch of Rockhouse Creek.  Her brother Elisha and his family had already moved to Breeding's Creek in what is now Knott County, Kentucky.
Nimrod’s mother, Mary Polly Breeding, his sister Martha, and brother Washington lived with Nimrod - Polly was widowed not too long after the birth of Martha, her last child.  Also listed as living in Nimrod’s household, in addition to his mother, brother and sister, were ELIZABETH BREEDING, age 1 year, and ELIZA Breeding, age 22.  The 1860 Letcher County Ky Census drops Elizabeth, but shows ‘Ilsy Breeding age 7 years’.  Polly Breeding and her brother Elisha Breeding are the only ones of Spencer Breeding’s children that moved to Kentucky.  Polly settled on Camp Branch of Rockhouse Creek in Letcher County.  Elisha and his family moved first, arrived on May 18, 1816, and settled on Breeding’s Creek in what is now Knott County, Ky.  Elisha was killed in 1864 by Confederate guerrillas.  He was 75 when the guerrillas of the southern side of the Civil War came into his home and took him to the mouth of the shop hollow at the bottom of the hill between Knott and Letcher Counties, near where the highway #15 crosses the hill.  He was shot in the back, then the family was allowed to haul him home on a sled.  They buried him 1-1/2 miles down Breeding’s Creek near his home.  The guerrillas took most of the family’s food supplies.  Elisha had thrown his pocket book near a gate and it was later found.
He resided in Russell Co, Va.  They lived near the Muster Ground on Dumps Creek of Clinch River.
Nimrod's will was probated in Russell Co, Va, 2 December 1828.  Will Book 4-A, 1-2 Dec 1828.  Abraham Childress was granted administration of his estate on 8 Oct 1828.  Inventory of his property was filed on 1 Dec 1828, and the sale bill of same was filed on 2 Dec 1828, his property having been sold on 15 Nov 1828. Daniel Strickler, presiding justice, shortly thereafter, which sentence was carried out promptly."
Also:  "Under date of August 19, 1932, Elizabeth Mead wrote as follows:  "I am enclosing a letter Bob. Trumbo gave me.  I give it to you."  The letter is as follows:
"Shenandoah County October 9th 1825 "Dear Sister "It is with singular pleasure that I transmit to you a few lines by which you will be informed that we are all enjoying of our health as well as usual for which I am very thankful to the Almighty for the many blessings bestowed on us.  I became a member of the Baptist church at Big Spring on the third Sunday in April from the same hope that I had when I was with you.  We have Ambrose C. Booten as pastor of our church and are much pleased with him as a Minister of the Gospel -- members of society --- baptized 8 persons among the number are Wm. Fristoe's Widow and John Fristoe's two daughters Lucy and Rebecca.  The number is 33.  Brother Andrew became a member at Mill Creek on the 2d Sunday in July at which time he was baptized professing to have hope in the Savior.  There appears to be a troubling of the Waters about the Bigspring where it has not bee agitated for a number of years and we ere long hope that they will come to the pool to be made clean.  Brother Andrew is expected to married to Miss Mary Brewbecker a Daughter of John Brewbecker on Thursday the 13st inst, he has given us an invitation to the Marriage and Rachel proposes going.  The Neighbours are generally well of this Neighborhood.  Crop of wheat were generally good this season; and flour is worth about five Dollars.  Crops of corn are not very good this season, owing to the intense Drought that we have had this year which is greater than we have experienced for a number of years (or indeed ever) and the Earth is so dry at this time that I am afraid the grain that is now sprouted and up will perish if we should not have rain soon.  Corn is worth about two Dollars from the heap.  Rye about 37-1/2 cents.  I wish to be remembered to Brother Charles if he is with you and if he should winter with you I request that he will write to me monthly as I am desirous to know his situation and state of health.  I would wish to be remembered to my Old Uncle and Aunt Austion I would wish to be remembered to Rev. John Kelly and family I think it useles to name each individual.  You will give my compliments to my relations and acquaintances that are convenient to you.  We have been neglectful in writing to each-other for some time past out I hope for the future we shall be mindful of the ties that bind man to his relations and retrieve our former error by writing every opportunity.  "I shall conclude by subscribing myself your affectionate
Brother till Death George Keyser. Ephraim Trumbo)  and Isaac Austin)     ) families
"Eli Chadduck desires to be remembered to Charles Keyser and requests that he will write to him the first opportunity."
Note;  The penmanship of the foregoing letter is excellent, and its diction clearly shows that its author must have been a man of culture and refinement."

George Keyser and Esther Hershberger had the following family:

        i.  RACHEL4 (#5741).  She married JOHN WESLEY BELL .  (John Wesley Bell is #5742.)  John died 15 Feb 1842.  John was murdered by two slaves he owned: Captain, a Negro man slave and Martin, a mulatto man slave.  "At a court of Oyer and Terminer held at the Court House of the County of Page on Wednesday 2d. day of March, 1842, for the trial of Captain, a Negro man slave and Martin, a mulatto man slave the property of John Wesley Bell, dec'd. or of the estate of John Wesley Bell, dec'd, charged with the murder of said Bell on the 15th day of Feb, 1842, Daniel Strickler, presiding justice and six other justices heard the case without a jury.  The defendants were found guilty and sentenced to be hanged on Friday, the 8th day of April next, between the hours of 11 and 3 o'clock of the same day, and court valued the slaves to the sum of $1,000.  The sheriff was ordered to carry out the execution.  It took place, we understand, on Bixler Ferry Road in the first hollow after leaving Main Street.  Daniel Blosser was Sheriff.
Two full pages of the evidence follows the verdict.  The defendants confessed and related how the crime was committed but the evidence was introduced also, only circumstantial evidence for there were no eye witnesses.  Dr. John F. Thompson and Dr. John H. Freeman performed an autopsy and they with Col. Jonas Aleshire and Joseph Bumgarner were the only witnesses.
OYER and TERMINER comes from the Norman French and means to hear and determine.  It was used to designate the Court trying a criminal case.  It is an old English term for a court that met at least twice in every year in every county in England. It only acted upon an indictment.
Bell is buried in the Keyser cemetery opposite Rileyville.  He had married George Keyser's daughter.  George was a son of Major Andrew Keyser of the Revolution."  taken from Page County Court Records, see "Forerunners" by Strickler, pg 160-161
