he became an auditor for the Budget and Physical Branch of the Chicago
Ordinance District. He is buried in Russell Memorial Cemetery at
Lebanon.

After its reorganization in the early 1930s, both he and Vivian worked
in the new Cumberland Bank & Trust Co in Clintwood until transferred
to its Grundy and Haysi branches. Later they moved to Powhatan where
they were affiliated with a bank until retirement.

and Meuse Argonne). On Nov 1, 1918, he was wounded by shrapnel in
the head, left shoulder and side. He taught four terms of school.
In 1920, he was employed by the Dickenson County Bank in Clintwood.
After its reorganization in the early 1930s, both he and Vivian worked
in the new Cumberland Bank & Trust Co in Clintwood until transferred
to its Grundy and Haysi branches. Later they moved to Powhatan where
they were affiliated with a bank until retirement.

to attend Prof Remines' school at Dorton, Kentucky, for four months. "Noah
'Shanks' Counts (E-681), Pros Sutherland (F-794) and I traveled by way
of Dog Branch, Clintwood, Osborn gap (passed the old man Swindall's home)
and down Shelby Creek, walking every step of the way - forty miles - and
taking every 'nigh cut' along riding paths and through laurel patches."
They paid Prof remines $4 for board and $3.50 for tuition each month.
He taught the Rock Lick School two terms, 1896 and 1897. As their
family grew to maturity, their home on Zeke's Branch of Lick creek was
a favorite gathering place for young people to play and dance folk games.
Ruth recalled that no invitations were needed as her mother's philosophy
was "Let them have fun while they're young". In 1963 they moved to

log house. This will be the last turn before reaching the top of
Chaney Ridge where Sandy Ridge and Chaney Ridge meet and before Route 63
which runs along the county line between Russell and Dickenson Counties.
"On November 28, 1998 I visited this
cemetery. I did my best to transcribe the markers just as they are.
The list of the grave markers and the numbers are to help anyone using
the list to locate the graves. Standing at the gate facing the cemetery
the rows run right to left with the first row being against the fence to

to attend Prof Remines' school at Dorton, Kentucky, for four months. "Noah

of Dog Branch, Clintwood, Osborn gap (passed the old man Swindall's home)
and down Shelby Creek, walking every step of the way - forty miles - and
taking every 'nigh cut' along riding paths and through laurel patches."
They paid Prof remines $4 for board and $3.50 for tuition each month.
He taught the Rock Lick School two terms, 1896 and 1897. As their
family grew to maturity, their home on Zeke's Branch of Lick creek was
a favorite gathering place for young people to play and dance folk games.
Ruth recalled that no invitations were needed as her mother's philosophy
was "Let them have fun while they're young". In 1963 they moved to
