Second Generation

 2.  NANCY2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1447) was born circa 1780.  Nancy died September 1861 at 81 years of age.
 She married JONATHAN YATES in Botetourt Co, Va, 10 June 1800.  (Jonathan Yates is #1448.)  Jonathan died 21 April 1801.
      Nancy Sutherland and Jonathan Yates had the following family:
      9  i.  JOHN3 was born 13 April 1801
 3.  HENRY2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1451) was born 1782.  Henry died 1840 at 58 years of age.
 He married AGNES 'AGGY' LAFORCE in Botetourt Co, Va, 8 January 1806.  JOHN BUCHANAN and JAMES WOOD were sureties for the marriage bond.
 (Agnes 'Aggy' Laforce is #1452.)  Agnes was the daughter of Samuel Laforce.
 Agnes died 1862.
      Henry Sutherland and Agnes 'Aggy' Laforce had the following family:

 4.  CATHERINE 'KATIE'2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1426) was born 1785.  Catherine died 1 March 1869 at 83 years of age.
 She married MONCIER "MONT" LAFORCE in Botetourt Co, Va, 12 December 1802.  (Moncier "Mont" LaForce is #1431.)  Moncier was born 21 February 1768.  Moncier was the son of Rene Laforce Jr and Agnes Moseby.  Moncier died 5 October 1814 at 46 years of age.
 Per Mead Relations by A. M. Pritchard (page 211 under Charles Kiser):  "Monsieur Laforce was a comrade of Abednego Kiser, and he, too, died of disease at Norfolk on 5 Aug 1814."
 Spelling "Moncier" per descendant.  E. J. Sutherland has his father as Samuel LaForce.
 James Sutherland was surety for the marriage bond.  Katy and Mont soon came to Russell County, and on 1 Oct 1806, William and Phoebe Foster conveyed 112 acres on the Clinch River to "Monsher" LaForce (DB 4-22).  On 2 Feb 1813, Moncier LaForce and Catherine, his wife, conveyed to David Muncey 5-1/2 acres and to James Browning 106-1/2 acres on Sinking Creek (DB 4-552). Moncier LaForce died at Norfolk during the War of 1812.  Catherine's application for a pension as allowed by law, records:  "John Hamon being duly sworn deposeth that the said Moncier LaForce was under his command as a Captain in the service of the United States in the capacity of a private soldier, detached from the Militia in the County of Russell, and served at Norfolk in the 6th Regiment commanded by Lieut. Colo. Henry E. Coleman, that the said Moncier died of sickness while in the said service as a private on the 5th day of October, 1814, and that the said Catherine together with the children of the said Moncier and Catherine reside in the County of Russell and is yet unmarried.  Nancy Yeats a respectable person being duly sworn deposeth and saith that she was present and saw the applicant and deceased joined together in marriage in Botetourt County, Virginia.  The said Catherine being duly sworn deposeth and saith that the following are the names and ages of the children of the deceased, to-wit:  Nancy about 12 years old - Ataline about 11 years old - Sarah about 10 years old - Elijah about 8 years old - James about 5 years old - & Rachel about 3 years old," (RCOB 5-357; affidavits dated Nov 7 1816).  The 1850 Census shows Catherine, age 65, and a John W.       Catherine 'Katie' Sutherland and Moncier "Mont" LaForce had the following family:

 5.  DANIEL2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1394) was born circa 1792.  Daniel died 5 February 1875 at 82 years of age.
 He married PHOEBE FULLER in Russell Co, Va.  (Phoebe Fuller is #1395.)  Phoebe was born circa 1792.  Phoebe was the daughter of Jesse Fuller and Elizabeth "Betsy" Lea.  Phoebe died 16 February 1868 at 75 years of age.
      Daniel Sutherland and Phoebe Fuller had the following family:

      20  iii.  SUSAN "SUSIE" was born 12 August 1819
      21  iv.  WILLIAM 'BILLY' was born 25 March 1822

      23  vi.  SARAH "SALLIE" was born ca 1828
      24  vii.  JESSE was born 15 April 1830
 6.  ELIZABETH 'BETSY'2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1453) was born circa 1795.  Elizabeth died circa 1842.

      Elizabeth 'Betsy' Sutherland had the following family:
        i.  JANE 'JENNIE'3 (#1454).
 7.  SARAH2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#1455) was born circa 1797.
 She married MICAJAH 'CAGER' ERVIN in Russell Co, Va.  (Micajah 'Cager' Ervin is #1456.)  Micajah was born in Halifax Co, Va.  Micajah died 30 November 1883 in Dickenson Co, Va.
      Sarah Sutherland and Micajah 'Cager' Ervin had the following family:
      25  i.  MARY 'POLLY'3 was born 1820
 8.  MARY POLLY2 SUTHERLAND (James1) (#112) was born in Botetourt Co, Va 1801.  Mary died 22 March 1859 at 57 years of age.
 She married EPHRIAM KISER 31 Aug 1815.  (Ephriam Kiser is #91.)  Ephriam was born in Russell Co, Va 1790.  Ephriam was the son of Joseph Keyser Kiser and Susannah "Sukie" Stacy.  Ephriam died 11 October 1885 in Russell Co, Va, at 95 years of age.  Ephriam and Mary lived on a farm near Carbo, Virginia, in the Clinch River area.  Ephriam bought land on the Clinch River, up Dumps Creek and onto Sandy Ridge (so named because of its sandy soil and seemingly inexhaustible amount of sandstone rock).  About two years after their marriage their first child was born.  They had twelve sons and one daughter.  On 16 October 1813 Ephriam enlisted in Lt. Andrew Caldwell's Company of Virginia Militia and was sent to Norfolk. There he was transferred to Captain John Dillard's Company and served in the Artillery on Craneys Island.  He was Honorably discharged on 13 March 1814.  Both belonged to the Baptist Church.  She died of heart dropsy.
They are both buried on a cliff on the south bank of the Clinch River just above Carbo.  Some others buried there were:  Uncle Nimrod Kiser, warren Kiser, and Ephriam & Mary's sons Ephriam and Elijah.  No tombstones have ever been erected there.  Pioneer Recollections page 199.

      30  v.  JAMES MARSHALL "BUCK JIM" was born 1826
        vi.  EPHRIAM (#585) was born 1828.  Ephriam died 24 September 1862 at 34 years of age.  Ephriam never married.  He enlisted in Captain H. H. Dickenson's Company, Confederate Army (CVA) where he contracted fever.  He returned home where he died shortly after.
        vii.  ELIJAH (#586) was born 1830.  Elijah died 1851 at 21 years of age.  He never married.
      31  viii.  JOSEPH AUGUSTUS was born 1 Apr 1832
      32  ix.  RACHEL was born 30 June 1834
      33  x.  ELIHU L. was born 1836
      34  xi.  JEPTHA was born 1838
      35  xii.  DANIEL SUTHERLAND was born 1840
      36  xiii.  NOAH was born 5 September 1842
