On the marriage record he was listed as 19 and she is listed as 18. Polly was the daughter of John (died 1901) and Charlotte "Lottie" (Birchfield) Rose. (Born 1832-1903) They lived in Leck and Flat Gap, Wise Co. Virginia. James was a farmer and made moonshine from the corn he raised. Ivis remembered that several cousins and siblings were told on certain days to take a shiny copper cooking pot and go sit on the top of the hill behind the house quietly and watch the road for revenuers. If the revenuers came down the road they were to shine the pots toward the outbuilding to get James' attention quietly. Then the moonshiners would hide everything quickly. James was blind when they came to Wa. He had cataracts and diabetes. He is buried in Lebam, WA. "Polly" is buried in Dewey, near Pound, Virginia. All the children were born in Leck, VA but they moved to Dewey, (near Pound) VA in 1918. Ivis traveled to WA. State in 1944. Several of her siblings, Opal and her husband Andy, sister Beatrice, and brother Maynor were already here.

Delmas, fourth son of James A. and Mary "Polly" Kiser died in early 1920's when he was shot and killed for the large amount of cash he was carrying following a moonshine run in Pound, Virginia. He was approximately 21 years old. Mary "Polly" Kiser died in 1927 following gall bladder surgery. My grandmother's youngest sister Ivis (last member of this family) remembers a lot of blood and that Lessie (my grandmother) and sister Beatrice washed out their mothers clothes in the river nearby. It sounds like she bled to death. Ivis was 11 years old when her mother died. She is still alive in South Bend Washington. She is 85 and has a few minor health problems.
SEVENTH GENERATION Lessie Aleta Kiser and Galloway Samuel D. Galloway

d. Dec 11 1989They traveled from Jenkins KY in 1945 to Washington State, with four children and Lessie’s father James who was 69 years old and blind. Samuel was a miner from W. Virgina. He had been married briefly once before with no children. He worked at Consolidation Mine Co #'s 2, 3, and 7 with Ivis's husband Elmer Carey. Sam lied about his age when he started working there, he would have only been 14 or 15. He had black lung when they moved to Wa. State. He went to work as a logger when they came to Lebam. He was injured when he was hit by a tree and died from those injuries several months later in 1956. Everyone that remembers him says he was a very nice man. He took a rope and strung it from the outhouse to the back door so James could follow it to the outhouse. My mother used to hold one of James' hands and walk with him as he held onto the rope with the other. James A. Kiser, Lessie Kiser Galloway, Lessie's daughter Sylvia O'neal, Beatrice, and Opal are all buried in a cemetary in Lebam Washington.
