First Generation

1. H. JACOB1 TRUMBO SR. (#6279) birth date unknown.
He married MARY. (Mary is #11308.) H. Jacob Trumbo, Sr. and his wife Mary settled near Brooks Gap, the lowest pass in Shenandoah Mountain, now located in Rockingham County, Virginia, by at least 1752. It was then Augusta County. Family tradition states he was a native of Alsace. Per Karl Kiser, who states this information can be found in "The Trumbo Family - Conrad W. Feltner, (1974)."

H. Jacob Trumbo Sr. and Mary had the following family:

i. ELIZABETH2 (#5736). She married MATHIAS RINEHART . (Mathias Rinehart is #5735.) Mathias was born Augusta Co, Va 1741. Mathias was the son of Hans Michael "Michael" Rinehart Sr. and Catherine. Mathias died in Shenandoah Co, Va. "Per Mead Relations by A. M. Pritchard
Page 185, Kiser Family - "Note: Mr. Isaac C. Dovel, of Ironton, Ohio, a grandson of John Keyser and Catherine Rhinehart, in 1876 compiled some records of the Keyser family in which he included the following list of births in the Rhinehart Family viz:

"Sally Rhinehart, born Dec. 17 1770 George Rhinehart, Born Dec 2, 1772 Peggy Rhinehart, born Sept 24, 1774 Caty Rhinehart, born March 13, 1776 Dolly Rhinehart. born Jan 13, 1778 Michael Rhinehart, born Dec 6, 1779 Elizabeth Rhinehart, born Dec 10, 1781

"The foregoing were children of Mathias Rhinehart according to letter of Oct 21, 1916, written by Charles Keyser Urner, son of No. 36, to John Trumbo, of Hanging Rock, Ohio." #36 in above book is Susan Rebecca Keyser, b. 29 Nov 1824, md Rev. Martin Urner. Susan Rebecca Kiser was the daughter of Christopher Keyser and Ann Brumbach.

Also from Mead Relations, page 214, (excerpted from the above referenced letter from Charles Keyser Urner to Mr. John Trumbo, Hanging Rock, Ohio, dated 21 Oct 1916, Washington, D. C.):
"The Trumbo family meets the Keyser family at three places. I will write what I have learned about this. Some of it may be news to you. I am sure it was to me.

"I will make Jacob Trumbo the starting point. He lived in Brock's gap, Rockingham Va. His sister married Mathias Rhinehart of Page co., Va. and they had at least two girls; for Sarah married Major Andrew Keyser, and her sister, Katherine, married John Keyser, a brother of Major Andrew.
"John Trumbo, a son of Jacob, lived in Pendleton Co., Va. (now W.V.) he married Esther Davis and they had nine children. Their third child, Sarah, married Hiram Taylor of Grant Co. They had a child, Milton Taylor, who married Caroline Keyser a grand daughter of John Keyser and his wife Katherine Rhinehart.

"George Trumbo, a brother of Jacob, went from Rockingham Co. to Pendleton Co. about 1777. He located a few miles below Fort Seybert and became a large landowner and his industry and thrift made him a wealthy man. He had ten children: eight boys and two girls. Four of his boys went west and the other children remained at home. He divided the home property among the children who stayed at home and gave cash to the other four.

"The oldest child, Ephraim was one of the four who went west. He married Susannah Keyser, the fourth child of Major Andrew Keyser and his wife Sarah Rhinehart." Note: some records have her name as Virginia, some as Elizabeth. Walter C. Burgner has her as Elizabeth, as does Ken Noggle.

Although from the above we infer that Mathias and Elizabeth Trumbo Rinehart had those children above mentioned, and that 2 of them married into the Keyser family, a Rinehart researcher has determined the parentage to be Michael Rinehart and his wife, Elizabeth. Her maiden name is unknown. He offers as part of his proof, a copy of this Abstract of Deed, Dated April 19, 1802, Shenandoah County Circuit Court, Deed Book N, page 110. "Between John Pangle and Margaret, his wife; John Kyser and Catherine, his wife, Valentine Van Hosser and Dorothy, his wife, and Hugh Carrigan and Elizabeth, his wife, now living in divers parts of the United States of America, the said Margaret, Catherine, Dorothy, and Elizabeth are all children and heirs at law to Michael Rinehart, late of Shenandoah County, deceased, who died intestate to Andrew Kyser of the county of Shenandoah in consideration of three hundred dollars ... all that tract of land, on the south river of Shenandoah, it being all the lands which said Michael Rinehart possessed and containing three hundred and forty three acres. Witnesses: Thomas Jackson, John Stover, Randolph Casey, Levi Casey. Signatures: John (X) Pangle; Margaret (X) Pangle; John (X) Kyser; Catherine (X) Kyser; Valentine (X) Van Hooser; Dorothy (X) Van Hooser; Hugh (X) Carrigan. Deed Recorded September 13, 1802."

He married ELIZABETH LAIR. (Elizabeth Lair is #11309.) Jacob Trumbo, Jr. remained in rockingham County, Brocks Gap Area, per Karl Kiser.

4. JOHN M.3 TRUMBO (Jacob2, H. Jacob1) (#6281) birth date unknown.
He married ESTHER DAVIS. (Esther Davis is #6282.) John is buried in what is now Pendleton County, West Virginia, 1818. Per Karl Kiser who also descends from the "other" Kisers, Michael and Mary Kiser of Virginia.
Per Mead Relations by A. M. Pritchard they had nine children. Their third child, Sarah, married Hiram Taylor of Grant County. They had a child, Milton Taylor, who married Caroline Keyser, (#6010) a grand daughter of John Keyser and his wife Katherine Rhinehart."

5. GEORGE3 TRUMBO JR. (George2, H. Jacob1) (#5746) was born 1 Jan 1779. George died 9 Mar 1860 at 81 years of age.
He married MARY "POLLY" AUSTIN 20 Jun 1818. (Mary "Polly" Austin is #5843.) Mary was born 12 Oct 1798. Mary was the daughter of George Austin and Esther Keyser. Mary died 16 Oct 1884 at 86 years of age. The following information concerns George Trumbo's father.

George Trumbo, Sr. was a brother of Jacob Trumbo, whose sister married Mathias Rhinehart. George Trumbo went from Rockingham County, VA to Pendleton County about 1777. He located a few miles below Fort Seybert and became a large landowner and his industry and thrift made him a wealthy man. He had ten children, eight boys and two girls. Four of his boys went west and the other children remained at home. He divided the home property among the children who stayed at home and gave cash to the other four. The oldest child, Ephriam, was one of the four who went west. (see Mead Relations, Charles Keyser Urner letter, page 214)

        vii. LEVI (#5854) was born 14 Apr 1833. Levi died 7 Aug 1843 at 10 years of age.

        ix. MARY (#5856) was born 20 Jun 1837. Mary died 10 Jan 1893 at 55 years of age. She never married.

6. EPHRIAM3 TRUMBO (George2, H. Jacob1) (#38) was born Oct 1781. Ephriam died 30 Sep 1863 at 81 years of age.
He married SUSANNAH KEYSER 13 Mar 1810. (Susannah Keyser is #25.) Susannah was born 25 Sep 1791. Susannah was the daughter of Andrew Keyser and Sarah Margaret "Sally" Rinehart. Susannah died 13 Dec 1864 at 73 years of age. Per A. M. Prichard's Mead Relations: "Note: Rev. James Gilruth, in his letters referred to in the sketch of Mary Keyser, No. 6, after describing the first school "ever kept between "Storm's Creek and the French Grant" said: "the old house being untenantable, and the right of property falling into the hand of a man in Virginia by the name of Andrew Kiser, he bestowed it upon his son-in-law, Ephriam Trumbo, who had married his daughter, Susannah. Trumbo was a wheel-wright; and as, in those days, the women did their own spinning, it was a good trade. But he turned his attention to farming, and made the best fences of any man in those parts." Mr. Gilruth, in another connection, also said that a daughter of William Power "married Ephriam Trumbo's oldest son, and moved to Massoit, Illinois."

        iv. JOHN ROBERT (#5882) was born 28 Sep 1819. John died 13 Jan 1834 at 14 years of age.

She married JESSE DAVISSON. (Jesse Davisson is #6514.) Jesse was born 1807. Jesse died 1890 at 83 years of age.

9. ESTHER4 TRUMBO (George3, George2, H. Jacob1) (#5851) was born 7 May 1826. Esther died 7 Oct 1867 at 41 years of age.
She married ISAIAH W. KELLY 18 Sep 1845. (Isaiah W. Kelly is #6124.) Isaiah was born 2 Nov 1823. Isaiah was the son of Charles Kelly Sr. and Mary Harshburger. Isaiah died 16 Feb 1882 at 58 years of age.
