 1.  HANS MICHAEL "MICHAEL"1 RINEHART SR. (#9812) was born in Barlenburg, Germany (see message below)  1710.  Hans died 24 Jan 1751 Augusta Co, Va, at 40 years of age.
He married CATHERINE in Germany, 1731.  (Catherine is #9813.)  Catherine was born in Germany 1711.  Catherine died 22 Mar 1749 Augusta Co, Va, at 37 years of age.
Hans immigrated, 27 Aug 1733. Destination: America.  Hans Michael "Michael" Rinehart came to America on 27 Aug 1733 on the ship "Elizabeth" with his wife Catherine.  This Rinehart family was in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, for a "short time" and then came directly to Augusta County, Va. and were there late in 1733.
(Editor's note:  Augusta County was formed from Orange County in 1738, but because of the unsettled state of the region county government was not actually established there until 1745. Its area is 986 square miles, and the county seat is Staunton.  Orange County was formed from Spotsylvania in 1734.  Its area is 354 square miles and the county seat is Orange.  Spotsylvania County was formed from Essex, King William, and King and Queen, in 1720.  Its area is 413 square miles, and the county seat is Spotsylvania. Shenandoah County was formed from Frederick in 1772, and first called Dunmore.  The present name was given in 1778.  Its land area is 507 square miles, and the county seat is Woodstock. Frederick County was formed from Orange in 1738; but, because of the unsettled state of the region, county government was not organized until 1743. Part of Augusta was added later.  Its area is 432 square miles, and the county seat is Winchester. Page County was formed from Rockingham and Shenandoah in 1831.  Its area is 316 square miles, and the county seat is Luray.  Finally, Rockingham County was formed from Augusta in 1778.  Its area is 869 square miles, and the ounty seat is Harrisonburg.

Five of the children of Michael Rinehart Sr., were adopted by the "church wardens" and they were raised by members of the church (Lutheran).  Since his wife died in 1749, his elder children weren't of age to help raise their four brothers and one sister.

Walter C. Burgner, (Lima Technical College, Lima, Ohio, e-mail:  burgnewc@ltc.tec.oh.us) has photocopies of the Last Will and testament of Michael Rinehart (1710-1749) written in German and he has the English translation.  He has his Estate papers as well, same thing.

  Der Julie Voyles:

While looking at the Hans Michael Rinehart Family Journal I see where
you state that he was born in Barlenburg, Germany.

While it is possible that at one time he might have lived in
Barlenburg, Germany, I have discovered that he was actually born in
Sumiswald, Canton of Bern, Switzerland.  It wasn't unusual for Swiss
citizens to move to Germany for various reasons and then migrated to
America.  Descendants doing genealogy research would naturally assume that
their ancestors were from Germany.

It would seem that Hans Michael Rinehart, better known as "Michael
Rinehart" was a younger brother of Ulrich Rinehart (1704-1787) who settled
in Parkfork, Chester Co., Pennsylvania and died in that county.

I have compiled a genealogy on the Rinehart Family of the Shenandoah
Valley of Virginia.  My compilation can be found in the Shenandoah County
Virginia Public Library, also in the Library of Virginia in Richmond,
Virginia.

Also in the Fort Wayne Indiana Public Library in their Genealogy
section as well as copies being sent to the Staunton Public Library in
Augusta Co., Virginia.

In my compilation I have tried to be accurate but I put a "Disclaimer"
in my Rinehart compilation.

I wanted to contact you as it has been a few years since I have had
correspondence with you on the Rinehart genealogy.

     Walter C. Burgner

ii.  LUDWICK (#9816) was born Augusta Co, Va 1735.  Ludwick died 1812 in Shenandoah Co, Va, at 77 years of age.  He married CATHARINE .  (Catharine is #9817.)
iii.  JACOB (#9818) was born Augusta Co, Va 1736.
iv.  PETER (#9819) was born Augusta Co, Va 1737.
2  v.  HANS MICHAEL "MICHAEL" JR. was born 1738
vi.  EMMA CATHARINE (#9823) was born Augusta Co, Va 1 Jan 1739.
vii.  DANIEL (#9822) was born 1740.
viii.  MATHIAS (#5735) was born Augusta Co, Va 1741.  Mathias died in Shenandoah Co, Va.  He married ELIZABETH TRUMBO .  (Elizabeth Trumbo is #5736.)  Elizabeth was the daughter of H. Jacob Trumbo Sr. and Mary.  Note:  some records have her name as Virginia, some as Elizabeth.  Walter C. Burgner has her as Elizabeth, as does Ken Noggle. "Per Mead Relations by A. M. Pritchard
Page 185, Kiser Family - "Note:  Mr. Isaac C. Dovel, of Ironton, Ohio, a grandson of John Keyser and Catherine Rhinehart, in 1876 compiled some records of the Keyser family in which he included the following list of births in the Rhinehart Family viz:

"Sally Rhinehart, born Dec. 17 1770
George Rhinehart, Born Dec 2, 1772
Peggy Rhinehart, born Sept 24, 1774
Caty Rhinehart, born March 13, 1776
Dolly Rhinehart. born Jan 13, 1778
Michael Rhinehart, born Dec 6, 1779
Elizabeth Rhinehart, born Dec 10, 1781

"The foregoing were children of Mathias Rhinehart according to letter of Oct 21, 1916, written by Charles Keyser Urner, son of No. 36, to John Trumbo, of Hanging Rock, Ohio."  #36 in above book is Susan Rebecca Keyser, b. 29 Nov 1824, md Rev. Martin Urner.  Susan Rebecca Kiser was the daughter of Christopher Keyser and Ann Brumbach.

Also from Mead Relations, page 214, (excerpted from the above referenced letter from Charles Keyser Urner to Mr. John Trumbo, Hanging Rock, Ohio, dated 21 Oct 1916, Washington, D. C.):
"The Trumbo family meets the Keyser family at three places.  I will write what I have learned about this.  Some of it may be news to you.  I am sure it was to me.

"I will make Jacob Trumbo the starting point.  He lived in Brock's gap, Rockingham Va.  His sister married Mathias Rhinehart of Page co., Va. and they had at least two girls; for Sarah married Major Andrew Keyser, and her sister, Katherine, married John Keyser, a brother of Major Andrew.

"John Trumbo, a son of Jacob, lived in Pendleton Co., Va. (now W.V.) he married Esther Davis and they had nine children.  Their third child, Sarah, married Hiram Taylor of Grant Co.  They had a child, Milton Taylor, who married Caroline Keyser a grand daughter of John Keyser and his wife Katherine Rhinehart.

"George Trumbo, a brother of Jacob, went from Rockingham Co. to Pendleton Co. about 1777.  He located a few miles below Fort Seybert and became a large landowner and his industry and thrift made him a wealthy man.  He had ten children:  eight boys and two girls.  Four of his boys went west and the other children remained at home.  He divided the home property among the children who stayed at home and gave cash to the other four.

"The oldest child, Ephraim was one of the four who went west.  He married Susannah Keyser, the fourth child of Major Andrew Keyser and his wife Sarah Rhinehart."

Although from the above we infer that Mathias and Elizabeth Trumbo Rinehart had those children above mentioned, and that 2 of them married into the Keyser family, a Rinehart researcher has determined the parentage to be Michael Rinehart and his wife, Elizabeth.  Her maiden name is unknown.  He offers as part of his proof, a copy of this Abstract of Deed, Dated April 19, 1802, Shenandoah County Circuit Court, Deed Book N, page 110.  "Between John Pangle and Margaret, his wife; John Kyser and Catherine, his wife, Valentine Van Hosser and Dorothy, his wife, and Hugh Carrigan and Elizabeth, his wife, now living in divers parts of the United States of America, the said Margaret, Catherine, Dorothy, and Elizabeth are all children and heirs at law to Michael Rinehart, late of Shenandoah County, deceased, who died intestate to Andrew Kyser of the county of Shenandoah in consideration of three hundred dollars ... all that tract of land, on the south river of Shenandoah, it being all the lands which said Michael Rinehart possessed and containing three hundred and forty three acres.  Witnesses:  Thomas Jackson, John Stover, Randolph Casey, Levi Casey.  Signatures:  John (X) Pangle; Margaret (X) Pangle; John (X) Kyser; Catherine (X) Kyser; Valentine (X) Van Hooser; Dorothy (X) Van Hooser; Hugh (X) Carrigan.  Deed Recorded September 13, 1802."

ix.  CHRISTIAN (#9824) was born Augusta Co, Va 1743.
