"Samuel and Rebecca settled in Ashe County, NC in 1825 on the south end of Pont Mountain on Rich Hill Creek. He bought other tracts of land on Bear Pen Ridge, New River and Little Horse Creek. Samuel purchased on tract of land containing 640 acres on the waters of Rich Hill Creek for the purpose of dividing it among his children.
"There were nine known children of whom three migrated to the West. The other children remained in Ashe County. They were James, Phillis, David, Jesse, Elizabeth and Eve.
"Samuel was a farmer, justice of the peace and a surveyor. His children were also farmers. One son also became a surveyor and a justice of the peace. Samusl and Rebecca died in Ashe unty and are uried on Rich Hill in the Sapp Cemetery."

JOSEPH was born in Letcher Co, KY 19 Feb 1859. He was born near Whitesburg, Letcher County Seat. JOSEPH was the son of NIMROD KISER Jr and MARY ANN "POLLY" SUMNER .
JOSEPH died 20 Mar 1937 in Westwood, Boyd Co, KY, at 78 years of age. Joseph died at home on Old Buckley Road; they had to take the casket out through a window as the doorway was too narrow once the body was placed inside. Per his grandsons John Halloran and James Kiser.
His body was interred 24 Mar 1937 in Summit Station, Boyd Co, KY, McCormick Cemetery. McCormick Cemetery, is an old Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The church used to stand across the street, where the Ashland Federal Correctional Institute now stands. The land for the cemetery was donated by the McCormick family. The cemetery laid in ruins, weeds obliterated the tombstones. In 1992 or so, the Warden of the Federal Correctional Institute made arrangements to have the prisoners clean it up and they now (1998) continue to maintain it.
Long before he died he told his wife, Rosa, that his was the last grave in the Kiser Family Plot, there was no more room for internment after his death. In addition to his parents, most of his siblings and some of his nieces and nephews are also buried there.

Joseph was a laborer, first at the mines near Princess, Ky, then later at Armco Steel. He was also a farmer.
He was a tall, soft spoken, gentle man. He suffered from scoleosis, curvature of the spine. In him it was quite pronounced, got worse as he got older. Two of his children also had the same condition, as well as 2 of his grandchildren
ROSA's occupation: midwife nurse at home.
She was a very intelligent, thrifty, god-fearing, strong willed woman.

In 1993, Carmen was honored for his baseball work that spanned nearly 40 years, by the Ashland Babe Ruth League who named their new field the Carmen Moon Field, Home of the Ashland Babe Ruth League. The newspaper article, dated October 29, 1993, stated, in part ... Oliver Elam offered the sand-dune lot to the league (on Blackburn Avenue) after its old field at Fifth Street and Winchester Avenue was sold for development into a movie theater. With no place to turn, other than the already overused field in Central Park, the sandy lots were the only option. But with $39.76 in the league checking account, it didn't appear likely the field could be built. That's when Moon stepped in.
"He had some help, but it was very minor," Ingram said. "All the chain-link fence, he almost single-handedly put up by himself. He and his son built the pitcher's mound and laid up block for the dugouts. Carmen saw to it that there were a lot of things donated."
Moon's career has touched many lives. When the league was trying to raise money for its Blackburn Avenue field, Moon was repairing a chimney and told the owner about the league's problems. The owner, who had played for Moon, went into his house and wrote out a check for $2,000 to be used for field construction. "That's the kind of influence Carmen Moon has been on people in Ashland," Ingram said.
Moon has come full circle in baseball, coaching on the Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion levels. He has also been in the business of building fields for some time. He helped put up the fence on the Little League diamond at 17th Street in Central Park that still stands today.
Moon said he couldn't think of a better way to spend his time. "It's been kind of a first love," he said. "You don't have to be strong or tall and it's a safe sport. That's why I like baseball."
Much of Moon's childhood was spent in Portsmouth, Ohio, and his father played baseball with Branch Rickey. His uncle was a professional prospect but turned down the chance. "He was getting ready to go and his mother started crying," Moon said. "She didn't want him to go, so he didn't.: Carmen Moon hasn't stopped going in four decades.
