Burial Notes:
A few lighter moments Dad would have enjoyed....
One of the younger grandchildren was grappling with the idea of Heaven and asked her Dad about it. He patiently explained -though with a few more words-that Grandad had gone to a lovely beautiful place. This in mind, when we all approached the Manukau Memorial Gardens for Dad's cremation the beautiful colourful grounds came into view as a big contrast to the boring motorway- this same grandchild gasped and asked her dad "Oh are we here Dad is this Heaven?"
Dads suit pockets had been filled with cookies and drawings from his grandchildren. One drawing was very telling... Dad was laid out in front of us all, everybody with sad faces- BUT if you looked closely at the picture Dad had a beautiful big smile painted across his face.
There was also a debate about whether Dad should be wearing his overalls or the suit- it was a tough decision because of the sort of bloke he was, but finally he wore his best suit that mum reckoned he looked so handsome in- I couldn't say whether he looked handsome or not- he was my perfect Dad, I wouldn't have swapped him - EVER.
Much later- the youngest grandchild was always upset that Grandad never appeared when his van was around anymore. He had heard us all talking about how Dad had wanted to go to the moon and we now jokingly said oh well he's probably visiting it now. This grandchild then talked about being Buzz Lightyear and rescueing Grandad from the moon and bringing him back.
Noted events in his life were:
• Military Service, 20 Aug 1951, Cologne Germany. Royal Airforce 4078311
• Occupation: Heating Engineer, Painter And Decorator, Plumber.
• Immigration, 14 Sep 1972, Arrived In NZ From Leicester.
Terence married Noreen VARNEY, daughter of Frank VARNEY and Vera EBERT.
