Company I, 56th Regiment, NC Troops
"The Rutherford Rifles"

This unit was raised in Rutherford County in the summer of 1862 was reformed at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, NC, and assigned to the 56th Regiment as Company I. More detailed information on each of these soldiers can be found in North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 A Roster, Volume X, Infantry, compiled by Weymouth T Jordan, Jr with Unit Histories by Louis H Manarin. All genealogists owe a debt of gratitude to these gentlemen for their wonderful tribute to our ancestors.
