William Delos Allen, was born in Troupsburg, Steuben Co., NY on Dec. 30, 1900, the son of William Edson Allen & Harriet "Hattie" Elizabeth Allen .  Grandpa was married to Marguerite Irene Dennison the daughter of John Stephen & Ella (Rhinehart) Dennsion.  Grandma is still going stong at the young age of 97 - as she is still living I will not give the date of her birth - but that she was born in Urbana, Steuben Co., NY - at the time Gr'ma wanted to get Social Security she didn't have a birth certificate so had to find someone that could remember when and where she was born.  Not a easy job when you are in your 60's and have to find someone that could remember the event.  

They had children: Rachel, Richard, Arlouine, William "Duane" (my father), Ronald, Phyllis & Sandra.  

My father has always gone by the name "Duane" vs. William.  My grandmother told me of the time when my father was awaiting the train to take him to basic training (Korean War era) - they called for William Allen - several times - finally my grandmother said to my father - "Duane that's you".  

With so many William's in our family - my grandfather went by "Bill" (although I understand when he was younger they pinned the name Willy on him - which he hated), so they opted to call my father "Duane" to keep them sort of separate because they are not legally Jr & Sr - well I have brothers William David Allen & Steven Duane Allen - each are named after my father.  My brother Bill has a son William Daniel Allen - who we call "Danny", and Steve has a daughter Alyssa.

Needless to say it still get's a little hectic when answering the phone and when they ask for Bill - which one???
