Richard MCCOY
Trying to associate Richard MCCOY of Montgomery Co., VA with the feuding Kentucky MCCOY
clan. Richard migrated to Montgomery Co., VA from Henry Co., VA about 1781. After moving
to Montgomery Co., VA he sold two parcels of land on the Blackwater River in Henry County.
Richard died in 1792 in Montgomery Co., VA; his grave is above New River in the community
of McCoy, VA. He was probably young when he died; his sons were not yet of age. His wife
included Susanna (?), born abt. 1755; son William, born abt. 1780; son George, born abt.
1784; daughter, Elizabeth, born abt. 1776; and other daughters (maybe Rachael, &
Nancy). Many of the children and grandchildren of Richard have same first names as those
of the first couple of generations of feuding MCCOY in KY. Further, some or all of the
feuding MCCOY migrated to KY from Montgomery Co., VA. Searching for bible records,
letters, land transactions or any information that would prove or disprove the two MCCOY
families are related. J. Tracy Walker, III - jtwalker@mail.rlc.net 1/27/98
Unknown MCCOY

have been from Pike Co., KY. Sylvia and MCCOY had a daughter, Terry MCCOY, who
married an AYRES (don't know his first name, either). Terry and her husband had Jennie
AYRES. Sylvia and her husband MCCOY were believed to have spent time in Havenhill, OH,
later returing to KY. Thanks. Theresa Hargus - sissy@pop.oz-online.net 9/28/98
Willis MCCOY/MECOY
I am researching the MCCOY family who came out of Craven County, NC. I am a
descendant of Willis MECOY who died in 1800 leaving 10 grown children. I would like to get
in contact with anyone researching the same lines. I am trying to link Willis to A. Daniel
MCCOY whose will was probated 1736 in Craven County. A. Daniel MCCOY lists 3 children in
his will: William, John and Lydia. A. Daniel MCCOY was originally from Virginia and he
puchased land shortly before his death in Craven County. I believe that Willis MECOY is
his grandson and I searching for information that might prove this. Any help would be
appreciated. Thank you. Melissa McCoy-Bell - mbell@netten.net 4/18/98
