3.
Thomas2 Mays
(William1) was born
October 04, 1880 in Surbiton,
Britain, and died November 28, 1964
in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
He married Rose Sophia
Young July 25, 1901 in Kingston
on the Thames, Britain, daughter of
George Young and Rebecca Unknown.
She was born January 12, 1882
in Britain, and died October 26,
1963 in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Notes
for Thomas Mays: Note: Growing
up in England my grandfather had a
happy childhood. He studied in
expensive private schools where he
studied languages and the classics.
According to my father Thomas was
superior in the command of the English language. He excelled in
sports especially cricket and soccer
where he achieved many trophies . My
grandfather met and married Rose out
of his class without parental permission. Rose Sophia was the
gardeners daughter. This was
unacceptable with his family. As a
result he was disowned by his
family. His inheritance was lost to
his older brother Adam. The family
business was prosperous and the
money my grandfather lost in his
inheritance was great. The
family owned and operated a family
Interior Decorating and Upholstery
firm in Britain. Thomas shared partnership with his father William and
his older brother Adam while living
in Britain. The family business did
very well with having a lot of
expensive contracts with "Big
Banks" with clients such as the
famous bank known as Barclays in
England. The business was called
"Holly Cottage". After
arriving in Canada Thomas Mays
walked many miles from Barrie,
Ontario to Waubaushene, Ontario and
was able to get work in the saw
mill. The family then moved to
Waubaushene to be close to their
father and husband. Two
years later Thomas joined the
Canadian Army as a Drill
Instructor. He was promoted later as
Sergeant. He was soon transferred
overseas to England where he
remained as an instructor throughout
World War 1. During
the war years my grandmother Rose
and her young family lived i n
Barrie, Ontario from 1914 to 1918.
When my grandfather returned to
Canada fro m Britain he returned to
a private life. He went back to his
former profession and worked as a
house decorator. My grandfather was
a house decorator for many years
retiring from that profession. He
was a gifted musician who was a soloist at Trinity Anglican Church for
46 years of his life. At one time of
his singing ministry eight of his
children including my father Harvie
Harry sang in the same choir at
Trinity Anglican Church. This made
my grandfather one very proud man
who took great pleasure in sharing
his musical talents with all of his
children. Note: Thomas
Mays and his wife Rose Sophia Young
emigrated from Britain to Canada
with five of their ten children in
1912 on the Mauret Tania ship. The
ship was with the Canard Line's. Source

About Thomas Mays: Emigration:
From Britain to Canada Occupation:
Bef. 1912, Britain; Occupation:
Thomas was a Interior Decorator for
many years working with his father
William and his brother Adam in
their Interior Decorating and
Upholstery Firm in Britain. Notes
for Rose Sophia Young: Rose
Sophia Young was a mid-wife in Britain for
many years. Although my grandmother
didn't practice as a mid-wife when she
came to Canada with her family she
was often consulted by the local
physicians about prenatal care and
delivering high risk infants. My
grandmother had a love for education and for learning. I have many fond
memories of going to the family home
in Barrie, Ontario with my mother
for visits. The one thing that
stands out is when we went for a few
days visit my "nana" would
make a bed out of a big easy chair
and a foot stool. I thought this was
great and would pretend that I was
camping in my "nana's" living room. My grandmother always
made our visit an adventure. This
experience always made me anxious to
return back for many more visits .She
always had something planned for me
and made my visits interesting. The
memories that I have of my visits
to the family home in Barrie were
always times of love and adventure. More

Vera Jean3 Mays

was born January 29, 1912 in Surbiton, England;
died July 1, 2004 in Victoria, BC Canada.
She married Arthur Ashford,
son of George Ashford and Frances
Carter.
He was born May 25, 1910 in
Leeds, England, and died January 28,
1985 in Victoria, BC, Canada. Notes
for Vera Jean Mays: Aunt
Vera was just three months old when
she traveled with her parents from
Britain. Originally the family had
been booked to sail on the Titanic
from Britain to Canada. My aunt
developed a spot on her forehead
after having a vaccine to protect
her from disease before making the
trip. The first thought was she could
have small pox so the family were
not allowed to board the ship. Just
to think that one spot prevented my
family from boarding the ship which
in turn eventually spared their
lives from certain death. Source
of Information supplied by Vera
Ashford, my aunt. Given to Judith
Scott in September 2002. Note:
Aunt Vera was my mother's
sister-in-law and was quite close to
my mother through the years in spite
of my aunt Vera's brother "Harvie
Harry" divorcing my mother. It
never made any difference and did
not stand in the way of their
relationship through the years. My
mother was always known by Aunt Vera
and Uncle Arthur's children as
"Aunt Margaret". I can
remember years later my mother's
niece {Audrey Mc Leary} who was an
adult herself would always address
my mother as "Aunt". One
day I can remember my mother telling
her to call her Margaret and leave
off the "Aunt part",
which was a really hard thing for
Audrey to do. In the end as usual my
mother had her way. From that point
on Mom's nieces called her
"Margaret". To this day
when I have any conversation with
any of the girls they always bring
up this story of when my mother told
them not to call her
"Auntie" anymore. More About Vera Jean Mays: Aunt Vera passed away from Kidney failure after a hard fought battle in hospital. She was a strong woman who truly lived life to the fullest and was loved by many. She will be greatly missed by her three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Notes

More Information for Harvie Harry Mays and Carole Edgar: Carole has been at Dad's side for the past several years and has been his "cheering audience" with offering much love, encouragement, companionship and support. Carole was instrumental in getting Dad back on his feet after a "Stroke" suffered 2 years ago. Although the prognosis didn't look promising for Dad, Carole was right there and offered the support and encouragement he needed. After much hard work with physiotherapy and strong determination Dad has moved forward and has once again been blessed with his Music with playing the piano in the community at various Clubs in the Toronto area. His most recent accomplishment was Playing the Background Music for his nephew, Douglas Mays at the Oakville Art Gallery, an Art Show where my Cousin showed his Watercolor Paintings. Occupation for Carole Edgar: Carole Edgar has been a School Teacher in the Toronto, Ontario Area for many years. She is working at present as a Supply Teacher for the Toronto? School Board. Research is ongoing at this time to fill in further Family History for Carole Edgar. Notes
for Harvie Harry Mays: Harvie
Harry Mays was the youngest child of
ten living children, the son of Thomas Mays and Rose Sophia Young. He
was an honor roll student in both
elementary and secondary school. He
was active in scholastics and sports
and extra-curricular activities. He
was quite involved on the gym team
and the basketball team. His main
interests were his music in which he
gave 100 percent of his time to it. My
father was a gifted musician who was
a tenor soloist singing in a choir
with 7 other members of his family
as a young lad. He studied classical
piano, pipe organ, harmony and
theory He was gifted in playing the
piano as a young boy and continues
today. As
a young lad of 10 my father was a
paid assistant organist for Trinity
Anglican Church in Barrie, Ontario.
From 1930 to 1940 m y father went
with his father on a "circuit"
around Barrie and Orillia as his regular accompanist on piano and pump
organ. In the war years he played
piano and sang in a small band.
After the war years he continued on
with his music. He was invited to
perform at many clubs around the
Toronto Ontario area. In
1953 he moved to Montreal. He was
transferred with Mays Steel from
Toronto to Montreal as their
salesman. He joined St. James the
Apostle church and was their tenor
soloist. While there he composed two
classical type
songs.1."Lament" based on
a SwinBorne poem. 2. "A Baby's
Eyes" that was sung by the
soprano soloist at St. James in one
of her concerts. My father was in
attendance and received good
acknowledgement. While
in attendance at St. James according
to my father he sang "solo
gigs" at weddings, parties and
many other places. While my father
was still with the St. James church
choir he applied to study with a
famous voice teacher Bernard Diamante
who eventually took him on. That was
quite an honor for Dad as Monsieur
Diamante took only the best. My
father had many opportunities and
excelled in music. He took part in a
Broadway musical and was a gifted
musician in his own right. One of
the Broadway musicals was
"Carousel" where he met
Marilyn Gardner who was an extra in
the Broadway show
"Carousel" as my father
was at that time. Besides
the many accomplishments in his
music career too numerous to mention
here he went on and performed in
many different music settings
including directing the Police
Department choir for seven years in
the Toronto, Ontario area. He was
hired by the Police Department in
Toronto in 1972 as their Music
Director and stayed until 1979. Besides
my fathers musical career he was
quite interested in sports. He
played rugby, hockey, tennis,
baseball, softball and football. My
dad enjoyed skiing, swimming,
diving and track and field. He was
one of the first high jumpers in
Barrie history to switch from the
scissors style to the eastern
layout. Dad
was a very popular young man in
every area he was involved in
whether it be music or sports. In
this present day my father at the
age of 80 is still very active in
the community and still enjoys
entertaining others with his music. Notes
for Margaret Irene Dawe: Margaret
Irene was a retired medical staff
secretary for the Hamilton Civic Hospitals in Hamilton Ontario. She was
dedicated to serving her hospital
and the doctors for almost 20
years. She
was given a retirement tea to honor
her many years of dedicated service
in 1986.They gave her a wonderful
send off with showering her with
many gifts and many letters of
thanks and appreciation by the heads of departments, doctors, nurses
and fellow peers with whom she
worked with. The
major part of Mom's life was the
dedication of her life to her
family. She gave of herself and
always went the second mile. Her
grandchildren were the highlight of
her life. Over the years she offered
so much support and love to her
grandchildren. When
I was left on my own as a single
parent to raise two young children
she stepped right in and gave of
herself to help with child rearing.
She would often take the children
for weekends to give me a break. On
those weekend adventures she would
often take the children skating in
the winter and swimming in the
summer. Mom liked her sports and
always included both Stan and Lynn. She
was a person who loved both
participating and watching sports on
television She liked to watch
golf, bowling, tennis and enjoyed all
winter sports. In her earlier days
she skied, curled, golfed and was on
a 5 pin bowling team. For many years
she lawn bowled and participated in
many tournaments. My mother held
seasons tickets for the Tiger Cat
Football team in Hamilton and
attended many hockey games as well. Besides
the love for sports she also had a
love for Music and the
Orchestra. Each year Mom would buy
seasons tickets for the Hamilton
Philharmonic Orchestra. She would go
with her sister Helen and her mother Cora Dawe. Music has always been a
part of our family. We all have
enjoyed music in our homes. Almost
every member of our family has taken
part in some form of music over the
years. Many of the Family have participated
in a church choir. One of my mothers favorite opera singers were the
Three Tenors. She especially liked Pavarotti. Besides
music Mom had a love for animals.
She just loved Wildlife. She was a
member of the Canadian Wildlife
Society for many years. She had a love for birds and dogs. All through
my growing up years we always had
either or both dogs and birds. We
had a canary when I was a young girl
living at home. Hi s name was Peter
and when we moved to Trios Rivera`
of course he was re-named as
Pierre`. The poor bird, most likely
wondered what was going on as for
most o f his life he was "Peter
and then suddenly became
"Pierre` for two years and then went back to "Peter when we
moved back to Hamilton. We often
laughed over that. Mom
had a dog "Missy" who was
her pride and joy. "Missy"
was a gift to herself when she
retired from the
hospital. "Missy gave her many
years of companionship and they
were the best of buddies. My
mother was my best friend and the
person who I could always confide
in .I thank God for my mother and for
giving me such a wonderful
opportunity to enjoy all the years
of dedication and supp ort she gave
me in my growing up years and later
as an adult. No matter what my
mother did, she always put the other
person's needs over her own. Even in
death she was looking out for her
families needs and wondering how we
were feeling and how we were going
to cope with her soon approaching
death. My mother was a treasure.
She was a very unique
individual, very special indeed. I
cannot think of anyone who could
ever replace the relationship I had
with my mother. I have found out
first hand that a mother's love is
never replaceable. More

raised in a loving home by my mother
and my grandparents, Stanley and
Cora Dawe when my parents separated
when I was two and a half years of
age. At that time I went to live in
Hamilton Ontario in the family home
at 73 Hyde Park Avenue, the home
where my mother and aunts were
raised. It
was a home where I was nurtured with
much love, care, support and guidance.
At the tender age of five I can
remember my grandmother walking with
me each day to kindergarten. I
remember being a very shy little
girl and was very nervous attending
school. My grandmother was kind and
sensitive to the fact of my timidity and nervousness on that first
day of school. Each day we would
walk to school and my grandmother
would sing, skip and play games with
me. She made attending school a fun
thing to do. Before long I was
enjoying school and got over my
nervousness. My
grandfather was the one who taught
me how to tie my own shoe laces. We
were a close knit family that did
everything together. I can look back and remember all the fun times I
had with my grandparents and the
wonderful summer vacations at the
family cottage in the northland of
Ontario. I was given so much support
and learned much from them
throughout my life and early growing
up years. The
music background I inherited from my
father and grandparents was also
encouraged by my grandmother Cora
Dawe as she too had a love for music
. In her younger days she learned to
play the piano. She loved to sing
and I remember sitting at her feet
singing with her. I sang in the
choir of Melrose United Church in
Hamilton Ontario and was involved in
the Junior, Intermediate and Senior
choirs. This is where I really
enjoyed myself. I
thank God for my Christian heritage
roots that have been passed down to
me through my family. My life has
been enriched by the influence of my
families nurturing, care, love, teaching and acceptance that was given
during my growing up years in
Hamilton, Ontario. Note: Education: Douglas College: Nursing Program, 1988-1992; Medical Laboratory,1983-1984; ACE. Training in Christian Education 1980-1983; Christian Counseling Training

for Alex- Andre Bajkor: Note: Alex-Andre`
was born in a small town that
bordered France. He had a career in
Knife Carving. In the Public Library
there is a Book called "The Gun
Digest"; Book of Knives 2nd
Edition, On page 177 there is a
story written about Andre`. In that
chapter it tells about Andre's
interests and all about his career
in Knife Carving. Note:
Andre enjoyed any kind of hunting
and especially liked to hunt deer.
He was a man who was very keen on
Sports and the outdoors. Note:
I remember him as being quite
talented in Art, he was able to
sketch just about anything. Before
we were married I remember him with
a sketch book and artist pencil
designing my wedding dress. We
discussed what I was wanting for my
dress and he took a pencil and
sketch book and began to draw an
outline of the dress I described. By
the time he finished drawing the
outline and filling it in he had
pretty well drawn the dress I had
described to him. It was amazing the
talent he had. If we had more time
before our wedding date I am sure
Andre` would of designed my dress
and had it made for me. He was a
very talented young man when we
first met. This is what first
attracted me to Andre. Another
note of interest was most of his
friends called him Andre` but his
family as far as I can remember
would always call him
"Alex". More

for Thomas David Harry Scott: Thomas
Scott adopted Judith Arlene Bajkor's
children at point of marriage. He ad
opted both Stanley John and Linda
Margaret in 1975 after marriage. Tom
was a good father who really loved
his children. Not many men would take
on someone else' s children and be
willing to adopt them and make them
his own. He did have a heart of
gold. Thomas worked at Dofasco steel
company in the blast furnace for
many years in Hamilton, Ontario. At
one time he and his dad David Scott
worked at Dofasco at the same
time. Dofasco was very famous for
their Christmas parties for the
families of their employees. They put
on excellent parties for the
children. There were gifts for the
children and their parents including
a big box of goodies and fruit for
each one who worked for Dofasco. This
was a highlight for the year for all
the families who had loved ones
working at Dofasco. More

for Linda Margaret Scott: Linda
Margaret was born on a sunny cold
day November 23,1973 in Hamilton,
Ontario. This is a day I will never
forget as long as I will live. It
was such a joyous occasion. With
great anticipation I arrived at
Henderson General Hospital to have
my precious baby .In those days you
never knew in advance what sex of
the baby you were going to have. I just
knew I was going to have my baby and
the baby was going to be healthy. I
was quite anxious to get into the
labor and delivery room to have my
baby. I wanted my baby and was
anxious to hold this precious soul
in my arms. After a few hours I was
able to do just that and was a very
happy young mother of a beautiful
baby girl. I
now had a complete family, a boy
and a girl. What more could a mother ask for. Lynn had big blue -grey eyes
and a full head of hair that was
almost black. She took after her grandmother as she too was born with a
full head of black hair. It wasn't
until Lynn became 6 months old that
she lost all that black hair. After
that she had a full head of blond
curly hair. To this day Lynn has
never lost her blond hair .Her eyes
are still beautiful. Her eyes are now
a blue-green color. I remember Lynn's big eyes in the delivery room as they
were wide open looking right at me. She never closed those eyes from the
time she was born until she left my side going to the nursery. It was there
she would get washed, dressed and ready for her first showing thru the
nursery room window for her grandparents and extended members of her family. Right
from the start I knew it was going
to be a special relationship I would
have with my daughter. In spite of
the early months of colic in which
she cried quite a lot and was
generally not happy with all the gas
pain she had, she did eventually get
over it and she developed a
personality that was gentle, quiet and
caring. As
a little girl I can remember the
love she had for me and her other
family members. She was a sensitive
little girl who liked to hug and
kiss you and liked to be touched.
Lynn always wanted to be close by my
side. She was a shy but caring and
sensitive little girl right from
the start that always wanted to stay
close to her mother. We did just
about everything together through
her growing up years. I think that
is why Lynn and I get on so well
with each other today. All
of these qualities have stayed with
Lynn all through her growing up
years and today she is an outgoing
young woman who gets along with most
everyone. She is a sensitive woman to
the need's of others. Lynn has lost
her shyness and is not afraid to
share her thoughts and feelings
with others now. Lynn has developed long
lasting friendships with a couple of
good friends and she is a loyal
friend to them. Lynn is now able to
use those qualities of care,
sensitivity and concern with others
in her work place as a Legal
Assistant with a Law Firm here in
Vancouver. I am so proud of my girl
who has become my best friend and
someone who I can confide in when
needed. Note: Linda Margaret married
Darren Brant in the Rose Garden on Burnaby
Mountain, August 6, 2000. Notes
for Darren John Brant: Note:
Darren John came into our lives a
few years ago through meeting my
daughter Linda Margaret who prefers
to be called "Lynn". He
has brought so much joy to not only
Lynn but to all of our family.
Darren is what you would call a
peace maker of the family. Whenever
Darren comes into a room he always
brings peace and joy. Darren has so
many positive qualities that always
stands out in a group of people. He
has a warm and outgoing personality
that reaches out to others. Darren
has shown so much kindness and love
to me all through the years I have
known him. He is always ready to
lend a helping hand when needed. He
is always ready to go the extra
mile with never a complaint. His
cheery attitude is always welcome
no matter where he goes. Darren and
Lynn both have been willing t o
offer assistance by picking me up
with the car for shopping trips and
many other outings. They are both
able to help with my wheelchair and
never complain. Darren always has a
smile on his face. I can't remember
ever seeing Darren without a smile.
He is never grumpy or out of sorts.
I really thank God for Darren. He
certainly has brought so much joy
and cheer to our household since he
came into our lives a few years
ago I have often told Darren he is
more of a son to me than a
son-in-law. I consider Darren a son
who has brought joy, peace and contentment to my life. Source

Stanley John Scott and Jodie
Lakustra had one daughter Bailey
Judith Ann Lakustra. Stanley John
Scott did not marry Jodie Lakustra. Stanley
John Scot t was born on a beautiful
sunny day in Hamilton, Ontario
January 25, 1970. He w as born one
month premature at 5 pounds. I
remember the doctor saying Stanley John was tiny but wirily. In spite of
his smallness he had strength to his
tiny hands. He would grab my fingers
and hold on tight. He wasn't letting
go for any thing. Right from the
start Stan was a good natured little
boy. He always smiled and never
cried only when he was hungry. He
was always full of cheer and never
had a day that he was fussy. Even in
teething Stan never cried. He was
content and happy to suck on his
teething ring. He was the type of
baby you could put down on a blanket
with toys and one who was always
content to play with whatever you
gave him. He never complained about
what you gave him to play with. S
tan has always been a good natured
young boy who grew up being
sensitive to other people's
feelings. He was the one who always
had a word that made you laugh and
forget about your cares and worries.
Stan has always had an outgoing
personality. He can come into a
room and bring much cheer and joy to
just about any situation one would
find themselves in. You cannot be
sad for long with Stan around. He
is a young man who truly brings much
joy when you are in his presence. I
can remember Stan as a young
outgoing little boy who was never
afraid to make new friends. In the
early days we moved a few times and
Stan with his outgoing personality
would run up to a complete stranger
and ask the boy or girl the
following question You "wanna"
be my Friend and sure enough a
short time later you would see both
Stan and his new found friend he had
just met playing and having a great
time. As
family we have often had a laugh or
two of all the times when Stan
would run up the street and
introduce himself to fellow peers and ask them to be his friends. Stan
never lacked for friends. He is
still the same today but a little
wiser in how he approaches the
people he wishes to befriend. As an
adult he has developed much artistic
talent and has done very well in
starting his own business here in
British Columbia. I am sure his
outgoing personality has helped him
in obtaining many contracts for his
business. He
owns and operates his own Rock and
Water Scaping business. Stan can
sculpt just about any piece of rock
and make something that is drab into
a beautiful piece of art. He makes
rock and water features for
fireplace mantles, Table top water features complete with a waterfall,
rock and water fountains with ponds
for private homes and has built
rock climbing walls and does just
about anything that is possible for
a water and rock scaping business. More
