East Side Woman Dies
After living on the farm east of Brighton for 40 years & moving to
town two weeks ago, Mrs. Louisa Strohbeck, 76, wife of A. F. Strohbeck,
died at St. Anthony's Infirmary in Alton at 10:30 a. m. on Oct. 26th.
Besides the husband she is survived by one son, Arthur C. Hunt, of Wood
River; one step-daughter, Mrs. Grace Polster, of the South Side; two
brothers, Geo. Stullken, of Edwardsville, and John Stullken, of Austin,
Tex.; and a half-sister, Mrs. Augusta Schaabe, of Lawrence, Kan. The
decedent was born on May 31, 1868, in Madison County, Ills., a daughter
of H. J. & Katherine (Smith) Stullken. In 1894 she was married to
Chas. Hunt, and two years after the birth of their only child the husband
died. In 1908 she married Mr. Strohbeck. She was an active member of
the Methodist Church, the Ladies' Aid Society, the Missionary Society
and the Home Bureau. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon
at the Methodist Church by Rev. I. E. Dude, of Bethalto, a former pastor,
assisted by Rev. C. S. Boyd, the local minister. A male quartet from
Edwardsville sang the favorite hymns of the decedent. The interment was
made in the Fosterburg cemetery with the following nephews as pallbearers:
Warren, Ralph and Roy Strohbeck, Norman Spitze, Rueben Koch and Edw. Hunt.
