A. F. Strohbeck Of Brighton Dies

BRIGHTON--August Frederick Strohbeck, 81, a retired farmer, who had been in failing
health for many months, died today at 4:40 a. m. in St. Joseph's Hospital, Alton, where
he had been a patient for two weeks.
Born Nov. 2, 1863, in Foster township, he was the son of George and Johanna Brueggeman
Strohbeck. He operated his farm northeast of Brighton about 50 years before his retirement.
His wife, Mrs. Louisa Hunt Strohbeck, died last Oct. 26, about two weeks after the couple
had moved from their farm home to Brighton.
Strohbeck was married in 1891 to the former Miss Betty Meeden, who died a few years later.
One daughter, Mrs. Grace Polster, was born of this marriage, His second marriage took place
in 1907.
Surviving besides his daughter are a stepson, Arthur C. Hunt of Wood River; a brother,
William C. Strohbeck; a sister, Mrs. Louise Lowe of St. Louis; and a granddaughter, Miss
Marilyn Polster.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C. S. Boyd Thursday at 2 p. m. in the
Methodist Church, of which Strohbeck was a member for many years. Burial will be in
Fosterburg cemetery. The body is at Whitfield & Warner funeral home, where friends may call
after noon Wednesday.
