Robert S. Jones

Robert S. Jones was born in Wymore, Nebraska on November 10, 1882.  When he was six years old, his father John passed away at 43 years of age.  Rob received his grade school education in the little country school of which all our Wymore raised predecessors speak so fondly.   However, he received only one year of high school in Wymore -- his education cut short due to being needed at home.

Rob met Ella A. Jones of Frankfort, Kansas, at the Old Settlers picnic in Wymore, and they married 1906.  After their marriage, his mother Ann moved into town and they settled into his parents' farm.  Rob and Ella had five children: Kenneth, Gertrude, Willard, Elizabeth and Phyllis.  As the family began to grow up, Rob purchased a farm and on it built a new house for his family.

In 1929 Rob branched out into buying cattle.  He served on the school board for nine years, was a member of the Masonic lodge for over 25 years and was a member of the Eastern Star, of which he served three years as Worthy Patron.  He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce.

Ella died in 1960 and Rob died January 30, 1976.
