John S. was born August 3, 1877 in Wymore, Nebraska.  He married Mary (Mae) Elizabeth Jones, also of Wymore, and had three children:  Gordon, Dwight and Eleanor.

John S. farmed, but also worked as a cashier at First National Bank of Wymore for 32 years.  He was a member and president of the Board of Education at Wymore; member and past paster of Masonic Lodge 104 at Wymore; past patron of the OES and worthy grand patron and trustee of the Nebraska OES.

In 1938, he and Mary moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he entered the home building and real estate business.  In Lincoln he was treasurer and choir director at First Methodist Church.  He also served as a trustee of Bryan Memorial Hospital Endowment Foundation for many years.

Mary died in 1943 in Lincoln.

Around 1947, John moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he died April 4, 1955 at the age of 78.
