Holt Co Democrat and Craig Leader, 18 Jun 1937 (Craig News): "Mr. and Mrs. Charles YANDELL will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, 22 June. Fifty years ago on this date, Miss Ida Lee O'DELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Francis Marion O'DELL, this city, was united in marriage to Charles Webster YANDELL, also of this city. All their married life has been spent here. They will celebrate this happy event at their home Thursday, and open house for all their friends will be held from 2 o'clock until 5:30. Mr. YANDELL was born in IL but came to Holt Co in the early '60s. He is now 71 years old and remembers a great deal of the early history of Craig. He had been especially interested in the new school house. He helped to make the brick that went into the old school house, just torn down, and the beautiful new building is being erected on a piece of land bought from him. Both Mr. and Mrs. YANDELL are enjoying fairly good health. They have 3 sons, Ira, Claude and Omar, all of Craig; also 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren". Holt Co Democrat and Craig Leader, 31 Dec 1943 (Craig News): "FUNERAL RITES SATURDAY for CHARLES W. YANDELL; Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, 1 January, at 2 o'clock from the Schooler Funeral Chapel for Charles W. YANDELL, who passed away at his home Wedneday afternoon about 3:30 o'clock, with Reverend Albert Martin of Saint Joseph conducting the services. (photo of deceased) Mr YANDELL had been confined to his bed since 18 January 1941, when he was stricken with paralysis. He had since suffered 2 attacks, each time recovering sufficiently to be able to enjoy his family and talk, although unable to wait on himself. Through all his illness he never complained and every act that was done for him was always 'all right'. He loved his company and many friends came to call on him during his illness. Charles Webster, eldest son of John A. and Eliza YANDELL, was born in Marion Co, IL 18 Mar 1866, and passed away at his home Wedneday, 29 Dec 1943, having attained the age of 77 years, 9 months, 11 days. When 3 years old, he moved with his parents to NE, and the year following in 1869, came with them to Holt Co and settled in this community which he was proud to call his home. He was married to Ida ODELL on 22 Jun 1887, and to this union were born 3 sons, Ira, Claude and Omar, all of Craig, who with their mother, survives. He is also survived by 1 brother, Fred YANDELL, Craig; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. Lucille BURKHEAD, Long Beach, CA; Mrs. Aliene FITZGERALD, Craig; and Sargeant Darrell E. YANDELL, of Chanute Field, IL; and 2 great-grandchildren, Bill and Lee FITZGERALD, Craig. When Mr. and Mrs. YANDELL were married they went to make their home on a farm and for a good many years Mr. YANDELL did farm work. However, he left the farm in 1912 and was engaged in the buying and selling of apples with W. T. Crews for some time. Then about 25 years ago he entered into contract with the MO Service Company and delivered ice in Craig until a few years ago when his health did not permit him to carry on. For several years and until his health failed, he owned and cared for an apiary, which hobby he enjoyed very much. Mr. YANDELL lived a good life. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a true friend and neighbor. At the services, Mrs. Everett Thomson will sing "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "The Lord Knows Why", and acting pallbearers will be Dave Brown, Everett Ward, Eddie Cerdes, Asa Sharp, W. W. Strickler and Frank Ward. The body will be intered at the IOOF Cemetery." Ida and Charles had the following children: Last changed on 13 November 2009 |
