William had a cattle business that took him and his brother, James, to CA in 1853. He is listed as an heir in his father's probate records. William and his wife, Susanah, bought 39.89 Acres from John POTTER, deed. (from John POTTER estate records.)

Regular term Holt County Court, 4 Aug 1863, page 80: Judgement against Levi POTTER, A. D. ODELL and William McCRORY for $176. Also, judgement against William McCRORY, A. D. ODELL and W. S. Williams for $584.

William served in Company C, Ninth MO S. M. Cavalry as a private in the Union Army. He filed for a Civil War pension in California, 26 Feb 1891, as an invalid; Application No.1,004,595. Susanah filed for a widow's pension in CA, 11 Oct 1893, Application No. 584217, Certificate No. 421160.

Cemetery visit, September 2008: William sold property in Holt Co, MO, in 1869 and lived in Suisun Twp in 1870 with three children.

Family researchers say William drowned in the Sacramento River.

From Gridley-Biggs Cemetery records: William is buried in Section 2, Block 1, Lot 172; no dates, just a military marker, "Co C, 9th MO Cav". Also buried there are his wife, Suzanne, plus a son, Thomas T. McCRORY and his wife, Mary A.
