Wayne Co, VA Deeds, 30 Jul 1842, Book A, page 96: "This Indenture, made and entered into this 30th day of Jul 1842 between Garrett Lowe of the county of Wayne and the state of VA of the 1st part and Joseph MARCUM of the county and state aforesaid of the 2nd part. Witnesseth: That I, Garrett Lowe hath this day bargained and sold unto the said Joseph MARCUM a certain boundary of land lying and being in the county of Wayne and state aforesaid on the Tug Fork of the Sandy River. Beginning at mouth of Stonecoal Creek thence down the river so as to conclude the one half of a survey made by William Buffington and Samuel Smiley of 65 Acres the farm that said Lowe now lives on, thence running up Stonecoal Creek on both sides up to the head, which I the said Lowe hath bargained, sold and delivered and relinquish and confirm all my right and title unto the said MARCUM to which I warrant and defend from me and my heirs and assigns forever unto the said MARCUM and his heirs for the consideration of $1 to me in hand paid which receipt I acknowledge and set my hand and seal this 30th day of Jul, 1842. signed Garrett Lowe."
