The Gridley Herald, Wednesday, 9 Jan 1924, page 3: "A Grist From The Mill of Justice; Alex Walkenshaw and Frank Miller who confessed to robbing and beating J. H. HOLSEY of Chico were sentenced to serve not less than five years in San Quentin prison last Friday by Superior Judge H. D. Gregory. Walkenshaw and Miller who knew that HOLSEY had on his person some $800, attacked their victim at 9 o'clock at night at a dark spot in Chico. Here HOLSEY was brutally beaten over the head with a butcher knife and part of his money taken. The amount saved was hidden in the victim's inside pocket."

Family sources say Ida was "no good"and Jim was a "fighter". In 1943 James was living in small cabin on Walbridge Street, Red Bluff, CA. Jim is buried on the left of his mother in family plot; no marker.
