J. ODOM travling ahead of me. When I saw a man by the name of Stine, spring out into the road from apparently a hiding place, and strike the said S. J. ODOM on the head with a club knocking ODOM down, inflicting a severe wound on the head. I and Joseph Gayly (now dead) and George SAPP (also dead) who were with me, hurried up to the scene and prevented Stine from doing any further injury and as I think, from killing S. J. ODOM then and there. I knew said ODOM for 7 or 8 years after that and that during all that time he suffered from said injuries to his head". 16 Mar 1876, at Bigelow, Holt Co, MO: S. J. and Miranda ODOM entered into a trust deed. It's unclear if it is a loan, but it appears to be a purchase deed.
