Elizabeth Thatcher Clough
(Mrs. Ora W. Clough)
Paris, Kentucky
Liz was one
of the great people in Kentucky Genealogy.
For much of
her life she visited courthouses and libraries in Kentucky, researching early
records and recording information.
A member of the Jemima Johnson Chapter of the D.A.R. since 1951, she was a regular contributor to The Kentucky Historical Society’s publication “Kentucky Ancestors”
for many
years.
Although I
never met her, we corresponded for several years by regular mail. She had a
great wit and a wonderful sense of humor, but no patience with people who did
not document their research and those who recorded speculation as fact. She was
a stickler for documentation, never taking anything for
granted.
We both had an interest in the John Baker
family of Campbell County, Kentucky.
She did research on them and shared the information she found with me, while I did research in Ohio on several of her families in return.
Elizabeth
passed away on 19 March 1997.
Little by
little, I see the results of her work popping up on websites, much of it
obviously copied from "Kentucky Ancestors". Some people give her credit, some
don’t.
I regret that she did not live to participate in the present world of Internet genealogy.
She would
have been a great asset to it and would have loved it, I'm
sure.
