James & Marjorie Moir 7
Known as "Jim", he was first noted at Mangawhai with the occupation of gumdigger in the 1893 electoral roll for the Waitemata electorate . The following year he was listed as a settler, which is how he was listed in 1911 in the roll for the Marsden electorate. He married Marjorie Wall and they had a daughter but it is said their marrriage did not last 5. She was likely the Marjorie Moir listed in Mangawhai as a married person in 1911 in the Marsden electoral roll . He once owned two acres of land at Moirs Point where he had a two room shack, and he lived with the Maories for some time, not spending much time at the Point until after he retired 6.
Children of James John Moir and Marjorie Wall were:
1. a daughter 5
1. Moir daughter - given name & history unknown. Paparoa Hospital was where her father died in 1937 at the age of 85 years, so it is possible she may have lived in that general area, although if her mother left the area post 1911 she likely left with her.
1 Calculated birth year - basis listed as his 3rd child on the "Statement of the Services of Quarter Master William Moir", and the age of 37 given for the 3rd born child on his mother's Aug. 1889 death registration record for which he was informant. ca.1852 confirmed by the 85 years of age given in his 1937 newspaper death notice.
2 24 July date from Te Arai cemetery headstone - transcriptions dated June 1984 by W. & H. D. Parkinson.
