Descendants of James John Moir
James John Moir, born ca. 1852 in Auckland, New Zealand 1; died 24 Jul 1937 2, 3, 4 reg. Paparoa - located 30 kilometres west of Mangawhai; buried row C plot 13, Te Arai Cemetery. He married, Marjorie Wall.
Known as "Jim", he was first noted at Mangawhai with the occupation of gumdigger in the 1893 electoral roll for the Waitemata electorate. The following year he was listed as a settler, which is how he was listed in 1911 in the roll for the Marsden electorate. He married Marjorie Wall and they had a daughter but it is said their marrriage did not last 5. She was likely the Marjorie Moir listed in Mangawhai as a married person in 1911 in the Marsden electoral roll. He once owned two acres of land at Moirs Point where he had a two room shack and lived with the Maories for some time not spending much time at the Point until after he retired 6.
1. Moir daughter - given name & history unknown. Paparoa Hospital was where her father died in 1937 at the age of 85 years so it is possible she may have lived in that general area although if her mother left the area post 1911 she likely left with her.
