Instrument dated 9 Dec 1858, given under the hand of the Governor Thomas Gore Browne and the seal of the Colony, appointing William Moir a Captain in the City Company of the Auckland Volunteers. This appointment followed his retirement from the 58th Rutlandshire Regiment of Foot effective 23 July 1858, in which for the previous ten years he had been an officer with the rank of Quarter Master.
