I work almost exclusively in oil paints. I invite you to take a look at some of my work by clicking on any of the tabs above. Contact me if you have an interest in commissioning a painting. Prices for my paintings range from hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars, depending on the size and complexity of the painting. In the example below, I'm finishing out a 30"X40" oil on canvas commission for a client in Alabama (a University of Texas alumnae) who wished to bring "a little bit of Texas" into her downstairs gathering room. The photo of the painting of the Mexican hat dancer ("Isabella") on the left represents a work in progress wherein I had completed the underpainting and part of the finished oil layer (about midway through the entire painting process). I very much enjoy painting in each of the categories above. I've purposely tried to accumulate a very broad exposure to different art genres, constantly exploring new avenues in oil painting through a wide array of art instructors. Thus far, I've had the privilege to study under Bill Scheidt and Jay Hester at Highlands Art Gallery in Boerne, Texas; Michael Albrechtsen, Jeff Legg and Carolyn Anderson at the Fredericksburg Art School; Bill Zaner and David Caton (plein aire in Big Bend National Park) at Zaner's studio in Boerne, Texas, as well as numerous DVD instruction videos by a bevy of artists and countless instructional books. One can never stop learning and absorbing new material in the art world! Constant Companions The first three photographs below served as, respectively, the background source for the painting; the photo reference for "Scooter" and the photo reference for Richard. The fourth photo is the underpainting, followed by the finished product, a 20"X20" gallery-wrapped oil painting. A Word About Art Galleries: Prospective art buyers may assume a piece of art can be purchased at a reduced price by buying it directly from the artist. The reason this hardly is ever the case is quite simple: no reputable artist will undercut their galleries' prices and expect to be in a gallery very long! I am proud to have had a long term relationship with the art gallery that carries my work. They have considerable overhead to support, but show my work to many more people than the occasional buyer who might come across this website. Here are a couple of reasons why I encourage buying art from a "terra firma" gallery. Galleries can't afford to carry an artist's work that doesn't sell. So, when you buy from an art gallery, you can be assured that the work is by an "established" artist. As a matter of convenience, most art galleries will take credit cards; many artists do not; I'm not set up for credit cards at all. Perhaps most importantly, an art gallery will give you an objective view on any piece of art, directing you to a wide variety of art from numerous artists. The above said, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail about any work that appears on this website. If it's currently in a gallery, I'll give you the contact information for the gallery. If I have the work in my studio, I'll give you any details you might wish to have about the painting. If you decide to buy a piece of art directly from me, I'll handle all the packing, insurance and shipping. Thanks for taking a look!
