Eva Ellen McMullen (1886-1935)
Daughter of John Liner McMullen

Eva Ellen McMullen (1886-1935) was the youngest child of
John Liner McMullen and his wife Susan (Gooch) McMullen. According to her
brother Ezra S. McMullen, Eva was the picture of domestication and actually won
the attention of her future husband Joseph Wiley Mathis (1872-1936) by
appearing in a feature newspaper article focused on her canning abilities.
Her son Lloyd V. Mathis remembered that there was always a quilt hanging in the
living room of their house, around which there was a frequent gathering of
neighborhood ladies who pitched in on a quilting bee.
One such quilt is shown below, along with a fine example of
Eva's taste in millinery:
